"First class. All of the staff I met were welcoming, cheerful, hugely efficient and both happy in and proud of their jobs. I have never seen such high morale in a hospital. I was kept fully informed throughout. My room was spotlessly clean and very spacious. Totally recommended."

Passing the £25k mark!

This October, Frankie, one of our wonderful Patient Administrators at the main reception desk, has once again taken part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s Sober October campaign. A dedicated supporter for the past 8 years, Frankie has raised an incredible £23,481 through her efforts.

Now, at the end of her 9th Sober October fundraiser, she’s proud to announce that she’s passed the £25,000 mark! This year alone, she’s added £2,369 to her total, bringing her fundraising to an amazing £25,850.

At Mount Alvernia, we’re delighted to celebrate Frankie and so proud to have such inspiring staff who are committed to supporting patients and cancer research, both in their work and beyond. “Everyone was amazing from start to finish. The doctor was professional and amazing and the nurses were outstanding. To then receive a phone call in the morning to check in on me was hugely reassuring. If I ever need surgery of this nature again I would undoubtably return to the Mount Alvernia; thank you to everyone involved.”

As Black History Month draws to a close, the Mount Alvernia REDI (Respectful Environments, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion) group brought colleagues together for a special lunchtime celebration.

Staff from across the hospital were invited to bring a dish, and the REDI team prepared a spread of Jamaican Saltfish Fritters, Cassava Pone, Crunchy Plantain Chips, and a Guyanese-style Genoa Cake, accompanied by a selection of sodas and non-alcoholic drinks.

Throughout October, the REDI group has been sharing educational resources and key facts about Black history, raising awareness and sparking conversations among staff.

We’re incredibly proud to have a team so dedicated to celebrating diversity, and grateful for the effort they put into organising such a lovely lunchtime celebration!
