Not the usual content, but what a week it’s been! And I thought it was important to share with all the women on this account ✨
For 24 years, I was told it was “just IBS.”
Stomach aches, awful period pain, leg pain, back pain, headaches, constant fatigue, frequent UTIs… and still no real answers.
I had so many tests; bloods, ultrasounds, CT scans and everything kept coming back “fine”.
You start to question yourself at that point. Like maybe it is normal. Maybe you’re just being dramatic?!
Then recently I went in for what was meant to be a minor procedure to remove a cyst from my ovary… and it turned into major surgery.
They found extensive endometriosis.
24 years for a diagnosis.
The hardest part is knowing this isn’t rare. Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women, and on average it takes 7–8 years to be diagnosed. It can grow on organs like the bowel, bladder and even your lungs! not just the reproductive system, and there’s still no cure.
And even now, after major surgery, there’s no follow-up appointment in place. I called yesterday for some guidance on what happens next and was made to feel like I was overreacting for even asking, and I’m still waiting for a call back.
This is exactly why so many people stop pushing, because you’re made to feel like a problem for wanting answers.
So if something doesn’t feel right in your body, please don’t ignore it. Keep asking questions. Keep pushing. Get a second opinion if you need to.
We’re so used to being told pain is normal, but it isn’t.
There needs to be so much more awareness and support around this, because no one should have to go through years of being dismissed.
No massage for a while I’m afraid, I’ll let you know when I’m back on my feet 🤞🏻
