Are you winding down or winding up as we head into Christmas?
Often, we search for the perfect present, we worry about wearing the perfect outfit and preparing the perfect dinner … let me tell you a secret …. No one cares! What we care about and what we crave for is connection, connection with other human beings. So, I invite you as we go into this festive season to be present with whoever you are with, rather than worry about whether it’s perfect. Let that be your gift to them and to yourself.
Whilst reflecting on the above, I recently came across a lovely definition of peace. Peace is the present moment without judgement …. I felt that this was giving the same message .. be present, not perfect. I noticed that when we embrace this, we may sense a settling, an inner calm that is peace within, regardless of what is going on outside. Rather than thinking in our heads, we can connect with our bodies and come back to our centre and listen to wisdom within.
So whether your Christmas is going to be loud or quiet, why not invite brief pauses into your daily routine to connect with yourself, with peace, and ultimate the present moment, which is always our point of power.
The natural tug at this time of year is to go inwards as nearly all creatures are doing. The weather is bitter, and we can be left with the feeling that Winter is hard. Yet, Winter is kind, she points us in her own soft way towards our inner self, towards this annual time of peace and reflection, embracing the darkness and forgiving, accepting and lovingly embracing the past year. Once Christmas is over, Winter takes away the distractions, the buzz, and presents us with the perfect time to rest and withdraw into the womb like love, bringing fire & light to our hearth. And then, just around the corner the year begins again, and like a seed planted deep in the earth, we will rise with renewed energy once again to dance in the sunlight.
