Let’s talk habits.

With the new year fast approaching many of us will be thinking of how we want our lives to be different in 2026.

We’re going to eat healthier, spend more time with the family, go to the gym regularly, get on top of the washing, save more money…

This sounds great! But do you know that out of a 1000 people only 6% of those will have maintained their most important resolution 6 months later?

The reason for this is that the brain is lazy. It takes a huge amount of energy to keep us doing the things that we already do regularly. The primitive brain doesn’t want any more. It’s happy to keep you where you are now. You don’t need to change. Ok you might not be happy or fulfilled but you’re alive aren’t you? You are surviving. No need to rock the boat…

It takes willpower and a lot of effort not to give in to our primitive brain. We need to make our new habits specific, achievable and hold ourselves accountable.

This is where Solution Focused Hypnotherapy comes into its own. I can help you to focus on one specific goal at a time. Visualising it in as much detail as possible.

For example, rather than “I want to go to the gym 3 times a week” hold yourself accountable - “I am going to go to the gym every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning at 7.30am. I will get my gym clothes ready the night before. I will set my alarm for 6.45am have a quick wash and a light snack before leaving the house. If I miss a session I will do a double-session the following day”

It takes a month for a a new habit to become automatic. Change one habit at a time. Once that becomes automatic you start a new habit.

Over a year that will be 12 new habits made.

Did you know I also work with children?

Last week I furthered my knowledge with a continuing professional development on working with children.

Symptoms of anxiety, stress and low mood are not always easy for children to explain and can present with physical symptoms such as tummy aches, headaches, feeling nauseous, repetitive behaviours such as muscle tensing/tics and sleep problems.

I can work with children struggling with the symptoms and behaviours associated with anxiety, stress, anger, excessive negativity and low confidence.

I can help children to regain a greater level of emotional resilience, control and develop a much more optimistic, positive and confident outlook on life.

I can also help them to learn strategies to help them take back control in the first instance, and then be able use this knowledge and skills to better self-manage their emotions and behaviours more easily in the future.
