JR Pilates Welcome to JR Pilates Physio-Led Pilates based in Hadleigh, Essex. Based at St Barnabas Church, Hadleigh, Essex.

Our class runs on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-830pm.

✨ Warm up with us ✨
At the beginning of each class, we ALWAYS warm up for between 10-15 minutes. A warm-up isn’t just “getting hot”, it prepares the body and nervous system for movement. During a warm up we:
* Activate the muscles we are going to use throughout the session
* In turn this increases blood flow to the muscles and primes the nervous system
* We work through our range of movement at most joints
* Enhance coordination and movement control
* Improve performance in the session that follows
* Reduce the risk of any injury or flare up to current injury

Because our classes are led by a qualified physiotherapist, we can adapt the exercises to those with injury or illness. However, we welcome anyone of any ability as the class can be tailored to individuals and we give a variety of options throughout the class to make it easier or harder.

A little preview of tomorrow’s physiotherapy-led Pilates class ✨

The class isn’t just about what you do in the room — it’s about giving you the tools to move better outside of it too.
We focus on understanding your body, improving technique, and learning exercises you can safely practise on your own between sessions.

Building consistency through self-practice is where real strength, confidence and long-term change happens 🤍

We love switching it up in JR Pilates classes✨

Heres a little snippet from something a little different in our physio-led pilates class this week 🤍
We brought out the Pilates balls and took the work into standing focus in on balance, ankle stability, pelvic control and functional strength! Standing work is just as effective… and I’m sure your glutes definitely agreed 🔥

The Clam | Physio-Led Pilates

The clam may look simple, but when performed correctly it’s a powerful exercise for hip stability and pelvic control.

✨ Why we use it in Physio led Pilates:
• Activates gluteus medius & minimus
• Supports pelvic and lumbar stability
• Improves hip control for walking, running & single-leg tasks
• Commonly used in rehab for low back pain, hip pain & knee pain

🧠 Key technique cues:
✔ Side-lying, hips stacked and spine neutral
✔ Engage deep core before moving
✔ Keep feet together, open from the hip (not the lower back)
✔ Slow, controlled movement — quality over range
✔ Avoid rolling the pelvis backwards

🔄 Progressions:
• Add band resistance
• Try adding leg extension (as in the video)
• Try adding reverse clam (as in the video)

This is a staple in my Physio-led Pilates classes, ensuring movements are purposeful, controlled, and safe for all abilities.

2025, what a year 🤍
This year I took the leap and launched my Pilates business — from setting up classes to meeting the most incredible clients along the way as well as lots of self practice.

I’m so grateful for every person who showed up, supported me and trusted me with their movement.
Thank you for being part of it all — I honestly couldn’t have done it without you!! 🌟

Here’s to growing stronger together in 2026 ✨🧘‍♀️

🍃 The JR Pilates squad worked super hard tonight… here’s a snippet of other class ‘swimming’ 🏊🏽

🏊🏽‍♀️ The Swimming Pilates exercise is a classic mat movement that strengthens the back extensors, glutes, hamstrings, and core, while improving spinal stability and coordination.

🧠 Key Technique Cues
• Keep your pelvis steady—no rocking side to side.
• Stretch long through the fingertips and toes.
• Keep ribs drawn in and core lifted.
• Movement should feel like a lengthening, not crunching the lower back.
• Keep shoulder blades drawn down towards waist

💪 Benefits
• Strengthens the entire posterior chain (back of body)
• Activates the gluteal muscles
• Improves core stability and dissociates hip extension from core control
• Enhances spinal extension
• Promotes better posture
• Builds coordination and breath control
