It’s not just the Summer months and weather conditions that can affect your eyes; it’s important to consider your eye health in winter too.

Snow and ice are reflective, so the sun’s rays can reach your eyes from
below as well as above.

Low sun in the winter months can also be dazzling, so wearing sunglasses on sunny winter days is extremely valuable, particularly when driving.

You can even speak to us about having anti-reflection coating on your glasses to reduce glare. Pop in to see us soon!

With the festive season here, you may be thinking about ditching the specs for some of those special events. Contact lenses can be a great option for people with short or long vision and whether you need to wear glasses all the time and there are a few options available:

1. Daily Disposable Lenses: Perfect for those who want hassle-free, fresh lenses every day. No need for cleaning solutions or the worry of keeping them safe.

2. Monthly/Extended Wear Lenses: Designed for durability, these lenses can be worn daily for a month. With proper care, they offer a cost-effective option for regular wearers.

3. Toric Lenses: Specifically designed for astigmatism, Toric lenses provide clear and stable vision by accommodating the unique shape of your eye.

4. Multifocal Lenses: Ideal for those who are long sighted, these lenses allow you to see clearly at all distances, combining near and far vision correction.

5. Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Lenses: Offering crisp vision, RGP lenses are durable and often recommended for individuals with certain eye conditions.

To find the best contact lenses for you, pop in and make an appointment with our specialist team.

Considering new glasses but unsure what to go for? Becky, practice manager at Stourport, gives her recommendations:

"I have several favourite eyewear brands at the moment that all bring different things to the table.

Aspinal of London are synonymous with class, elegance and you'll find on their frames they've included hardware from their handbags- leather or metal features.

I also currently adore Leparc Eyewear. It's relatively new to us, but is a small family-run Spanish range. Hand-painted acetate, handmade, and as the Mom of the group is a ceramicist, you'll find little details on the frame that pay homage to that- just stunning.

Wolf Eyewear is also a small, independent, family run, British brand and they bring us colourful and fun frames. Who said eyewear had to be boring right?!"

Glaucoma often develops without symptoms — until it's too late.

That’s why it’s known as the silent thief of sight.

It gradually damages the optic nerve, and once vision is lost, it can’t be restored.

The good news? With regular eye exams, glaucoma can be managed effectively.

We use advanced imaging to monitor eye pressure and optic nerve health — fast, painless, and potentially sight-saving.

You're more likely to develop glaucoma if you:

✔️ Are over 60
✔️ Have a family history of the condition
✔️ Have high eye pressure or diabetes
🗓️ Book your next eye health check if you have any concerns.

You might be wondering why polarised sunglasses are essential during the winter months in the UK.

Well, even though the sun may not be as intense as in summer, it doesn't mean your eyes are safe from harmful UV rays. In fact, the winter sun can be just as damaging, if not more so, because the low angle can lead to increased UV exposure.

Polarised lenses are specially designed to combat these challenges.

They reduce glare from reflective surfaces like wet roads and snow, while also offering 100% UV protection. This means you can enjoy clearer vision, better contrast, and, most importantly, safeguard your precious eyes from the sun's harmful rays.
