Today is a moment to pause and reflect on the strength, resilience and quiet determination of women everywhere.
For me, International Women’s Day always brings mixed thoughts. The first time I ever heard of it was when I was working abroad on a project — it wasn’t something that was widely spoken about in the UK at the time. Perhaps because so many women here have always simply carried on, quietly doing what needs to be done, without expecting celebration.
But at what cost?
Over the years I’ve moved through many chapters of life. I once held a corporate role as a Director of Spa & Wellness, travelling the world and working across international projects. Life then took me in a completely different direction — meeting my husband on my travels, building a life abroad, becoming a mother, and eventually returning home.
Coming back has shown me just how complex the systems around women can be. For those who step away from work to raise children, re-entering professional life can feel like pushing against closed doors. And for those who continue working, the constant balancing act between career, family and expectation can feel just as heavy.
Why should it be so difficult?
The fight for flexibility, recognition and equality — financially and professionally — often feels never-ending, and many women carry it quietly while also caring for families, households and communities.
In my work now, I see more and more women navigating the mental and emotional overload of simply trying to do it all. The expectations placed upon us have never been greater.
This is why days like today matter.
Not because we need flowers or slogans, but because we need to support each other more deep, to speak openly, encourage one another, and create spaces where women can be professional, respected, fulfilled, and still nurture their families without judgement.
When we lead with empathy, respect and understanding for each other’s paths, real change becomes possible.
So today, and every day, let’s remember the quiet strength of women everywhere — and continue lifting each other up.
