The irony of being a Yoga Teacher? Sometimes I’m the worst at actually relaxing. 😅
I’ve had chance over the weekend to think about my own personal experience at the gong bath with Harry, and why I couldn’t fully switch off as much as I hoped to.
Being the teacher, I found it hard to be the student. Even though I teach and guide my students on how to relax, I found it hard to do myself!!
I also struggled laying on the floor for a long period of time. I had a little support under my lower back, but I still felt twinges, and the back of my head started aching too. The eye pillow I used also felt heavy and uncomfortable after a while. I learnt you can’t 'will' yourself into a meditative state if your physical foundation is off. Who knew how difficult it is to relax!!
Next time I’m going to try a few adjustments to see if it helps my experience and I thought I’d share incase it might help any of you whenever you are in Savasana:
😌Knee Bolster > Back Pillow: Swapping the thin pillow under my back for a thick bolster under my knees to flatten the lumbar spine and save my coccyx.
😌The 'Neck Nest': Using a folded towel to support the cervical curve so the back of my head doesn't take all the pressure.
😌Eye Pillow Placement: Moving it down toward the cheekbones to avoid that 'heavy' feeling on the forehead.
Remember: Physical comfort is the gateway to mental stillness. If your body is screaming, your mind isn’t dreaming! 😊
