This week, I've been thinking about the 'plus' in our service offer...

🚑Very recently, my colleague Jenny and I picked up on symptoms which suggested that a client may have developed metastatic spinal cord compression (which unfortunately, did turn out to be true). He had been to his GP but a routine investigation had been actioned, rather than the visit to A+E that he needed. We then advocated for him and liaised with our NHS oncology colleagues to ensure he got the urgent assessment and treatment he needed.

💞Again this week, I had (strongly) encouraged a lady presenting with breathlessness and a heart condition to see her GP urgently. After her assessment, it was found she had developed a PE (pulmonary embolism). This is also known as a blood clot in the lung and needs urgent treatment. Thankfully, she has been treated accordingly and is currently fine.

🚶‍♀️A little while ago, a lady came to see us who had been treated by another physio elsewhere. She presented with ongoing calf pain and was a keen walker. Her symptoms hadn't resolved within the expected timescale and she had been cleared for a DVT. I suspected she had a vascular problem known as intermittent claudication and referred her on for an assessment...and I was right. After getting the treatment she needed, she is now pain free and back to walking miles!

This week, I had a call from someone who I'd initially seen just under 18 years ago, in a different clinic, before I'd set up in private practice.

He was keen to come see me with a new problem and said I was the best physio he'd ever had! Praise indeed! Whilst I don't think that about myself, I know what we deliver here is great and it's lovely to know that, despite not being on his doorstep, he is keen to make the journey to come see me. A nice little confidence booster!...now I just need to get him better - eek! haha 😁

Very sadly, one of our longstanding and much loved clients died this week being diagnosed with cancer last year.

I am calling these my 'Tim Tulips' and will hold him in mind every year they flower.

Tim was inspirational. He was so proactive in managing his various health issues and maintained his upbeat and optimistic attitude until the end. We will miss him, but he will not be forgotten.
