We’re really proud to share that a group of Alpha House residents successfully completed forklift truck training and achieved their licence recently! 🚜✅

This is a fantastic achievement and an important step towards employment, confidence and independence. Gaining recognised qualifications like this opens real doors and the commitment shown throughout the training has been brilliant to see.

🎓💚 Workability Presentation Ceremony 💚🎓

We started back from the Christmas break with a presentation ceremony to celebrate the men completing their Workability exams. One of our two Diploma courses here at Alpha House.

Workability isn’t just about getting into work. It’s about building the mindset, confidence and life skills needed to move forward.

Some of the themes covered include:

✅ Mental health as a barrier & ability to work
✅ Finding strengths and recognising weaknesses
✅ Negative moods, anxiety & restlessness
✅ Feeling discouraged by obstacles
✅ Emotional rollercoasters & dealing with strong emotions
✅ Blaming others / complaining without action
✅ Purpose, planning & taking responsibility
✅ Dwelling on guilt & feelings of unworthiness
✅ Lack of motivation, lack of sleep & lack of purpose
✅ Difficulty making decisions & problem solving
✅ Criticism and disapproval (and how to cope with it)
✅ Teamwork skills, impulsive behaviour & preparing for work

It’s powerful stuff and seeing the men recognised for their effort and commitment at the presentation ceremony was genuinely inspiring.

Your progress matters, and you should feel proud of how far you’ve come.

And as always, thank you to the staff and supporters who help make opportunities like this possible. Education, structure and self-belief can be life-changing!

🎓✨ Celebrating Hard Work & Progress! ✨🎓

Over the past few weeks, the men at Alpha House have been completing their November / December exams, and we couldn’t be prouder of the effort, focus and determination they’ve shown.

For many, returning to learning takes real courage. These exams represent far more than qualifications. They reflect commitment, resilience and the decision to keep moving forward.

Just before we broke up for Christmas, we held a Presentation Day.

🎉 Each man was handed their certificate by our trustee, Fran, Head of Education, Daisy, & SWAP Education lead, Jimmy. It was a real celebration of achievement, encouragement and community.

👏 Huge congratulations to everyone - you’ve worked hard, and you should feel proud.

💚 A Creative Christmas at Alpha House💚

During Daisy’s creative session, we got into the festive spirit by crafting Christmas cards for family, friends and loved ones. It was a lovely moment of creativity, conversation and connection.

🎉 Huge congratulations to our 'Christmas Craft Competition' winners:

Jamie, Ronnie, Tom and Dave, who each won themselves a pair of very fetching green Grinch slippers 🟢💚

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the sessions such a joy. Moments like these remind us how important creativity, togetherness and community are - especially at this time of year.

🎬 Last week, we held the in-house premiere screening of the Alpha House film!

Watching the film together as residents, staff and supporters was incredibly powerful. It reminded us just how far people can come when they’re given time, belief and the right support.

Since sharing the film, we’ve been overwhelmed by the response. Thank you to everyone who has watched, shared, commented, followed our page, donated or reached out with kind words - your support truly means the world to us. 💚

"I'm leading a better life. Better on this bright side."

At Alpha House, those words mean everything. They're the sound of hope returning.

This is what recovery looks like.

Men who were once written off - who have known addiction, homelessness, prison, loss and despair - are now choosing recovery, purpose and a future.

Alpha House Calderdale is a Residential, Rehabilitation and Resettlement charity in Halifax, West Yorkshire, supporting 50 adult men as they rebuild their lives. Many face complex challenges including addiction, poor mental health, history of offending, unemployment and homelessness.

Men arrive broken, isolated and unsure if change is possible. They stay with us for up to two years, learning, healing and rediscovering their worth. They gain qualifications, rebuild confidence, volunteer in the community and take steps back into education, training and work.

💚 Alpha House runs on community.

Terry, Ben, Jason and Andy have courageously shared their stories so you can see this work for yourself - work that is truly life-changing.

But like so many small charities, funding is a constant challenge, and we can't do this alone.

🌟 Celebrating Outstanding Achievement 2025! 🌟

We are incredibly proud to honour Andrew, one of our residents and dedicated volunteers, who has been awarded our Outstanding Achievement Award 2025 at this year’s AGM.

Andrew consistently goes above and beyond, not only as our IT Lead (managing our website, technical systems and keeping everything running smoothly) but also as a supportive presence in the main office. He is always there to help other residents and welcome new arrivals with patience, kindness and genuine care.

His commitment and reliability make Andrew a shining example of growth, resilience and community spirit and a valued member of the Alpha family. We couldn’t be prouder of everything he’s achieved and the positive impact he continues to make every day.

🎬 Exciting News from Alpha House! 🎬

We’ve been working with The Saltways and the Lloyds Bank Foundation on a brand-new promotional film through the Small Charity Appeal Programme - and it’s nearly ready to share!

Our Head of Education, Daisy, has loved taking on this project. The programme has helped her grow new digital storytelling skills and shine a light on the powerful work happening here at Alpha House.

The support we received included:

✨ Practical filmmaking guidance
✨ Help building fundraising and awareness campaigns

The Saltways team really understands the challenges small charities face and their tailored support has been invaluable.

A great afternoon for some of our residents at Halifax Borough Market! 🛍️✨

Today the men had the chance to meet The Mayor of Calderdale (2025/26), Councillor Steven Leigh MBE. Steven kindly stopped to chat with our residents about their journeys at Alpha House - listening to their stories, asking thoughtful questions and offering encouragement.

Councillor Leigh has a long history of community service, local leadership and championing positive change across Calderdale. His interest in the work happening here at Alpha House meant a lot to the lads and his supportive words gave them a real boost.

Moments like this show how powerful community connection can be.

We’re proud of our residents for stepping out, sharing their progress and representing Alpha so brilliantly. 💙
