What a fantastic day at Eureka! on Friday.

Families joined us for a fun, hands-on event packed with activities showcasing children’s therapies, children’s community nursing, play work and midwifery. From movement challenges and sensory play to communication games and health-focused activities, children (and grown-ups!) explored what our roles look like in real life.

It was wonderful to work alongside colleagues from Calderdale Council and Calderdale College, sharing the breadth of our professions and how families can access our services.

A huge thank you to the team at Eureka and our brilliant Widening Participation colleagues for facilitating such an engaging and inspiring day. We loved introducing families to the many ways we support children and young people across Calderdale.

We would like to say a huge thank you to the Albie Sugden Foundation for their incredibly generous donation to the children's ward at Calderdale Royal Hospital. Thanks to their support, we now have a beautiful new home corner kitchen, lovingly named Albie's Kitchen, creating a special space for play, imagination and comfort for our young patients. The donation also included three wonderful Buzzy Bees 🐝 which help to support children and young people whilst they are having cannulas, blood tests and other procedures — offering comfort and distraction during what can be a difficult moment. We are so grateful for your kindness and the difference you are making to children and families in our care 💛 🦁 💛

Here at CHFT Charity, we’re passionate about supporting the amazing children and young people cared for in our hospitals, and one of the most powerful ways we do that is through the magic of play! ✨

Play Therapy isn’t 'just' play, it’s a vital part of helping children feel safe, calm and understood during what can be a scary time. It reduces anxiety, eases fear, helps manage pain, and brings smiles back to little faces when they need it most.

Being in hospital can take away a child’s sense of control, but through play, creativity and imagination, they can rebuild confidence and feel like themselves again.

Our incredible Play Team work their magic every single day by turning our hospital spaces into places of laughter, distraction and joy for our children and young patients.

You can help to keep that magic going by purchasing a gift from their Amazon Wishlist or by making a donation to support their work using the below links:

🎀 New year, new Paediatric area in Calderdale Royal’s Emergency Department as it gets a facelift! 🎀

The Paediatric area in the CRH ED has recently had some improvement work to improve the experience for our patients, families and colleagues.

Work has included relocating the main entrance doors and introducing swipe-card access at other entry and exit points.

Matron, Leanne Baziw, said: "These changes also allow staff to have clear oversight of the waiting area, which was not previously possible. Together, these improvements help us provide a safer, more secure, and more appropriate environment for children and their families."
