The Village Doula Birth and Postnatal Doula - Supporting women and families in pregnancy, birth and early parenthood

23/04/2026

Looking back on the time I was fortunate enough to spend with these gorgeous babies.
There wasn’t many opportunities for pictures especially in the early days - looking after twins really doesn’t allow much time for anything other than feeding, (Milo included! 🐈‍⬛) changing, cuddling, sterilising and working some magic to try and keep mum and dad in bed sleeping!

I really do have the best job and love all the families I work with.
I’ll be back for cuddles very soon!! 🤍

If you are considering postnatal support it’s really worth planning ahead to ease the transition whether it’s your first baby or your second and third!

Please do get in touch, I would be happy to chat with you about how I might support you and your growing family 🤍

Gorgeous toes 🤍

Did you know I can offer virtual support?

This lovely family wanted a very intimate birth at home for their second baby.
I carried out two antenatal sessions with them at their home, loaned lots of comfort measures such as Aura Orbs, a tens machine, birth comb etc, leant them books and a birth pool!
I was on hand to answer any questions they had along the way and when labour day came I supported them through the night via messaging.
A beautiful physiological water birth.
What an amazing team this couple were 🤍

If you would like to know more about the ways in which I could support you antenatally, during labour and birth, postnatally or a mixture of all three I would love to talk with you 🤍

April is Caesarean Section Awareness Month 💙

During a caesarean section, seven layers of the abdomen are carefully opened to reach your baby, before being gently closed again after birth. Every step is carried out by a skilled team focused on keeping both you and your baby safe.

This month is about raising awareness, sharing experiences, and supporting informed choices around birth. Whether your caesarean is planned or happens unexpectedly, your experience matters—and so does your recovery. We’ll be posting various information about caesareans across April - and please let us know if there’s anything you’d like us to cover.

👩‍⚕️ Is it better to see the same midwife or a small team of midwives throughout pregnancy and labour?

Evidence from 17 studies involving 18,533 randomized women was included in this updated systematic review.

Women or their babies who received midwife continuity of care models (seeing the same midwife or team of midwives) were:

⚕️ Less likely to experience a caesarean section or instrumental birth with forceps or a ventouse suction cup.

⚕️May be less likely to experience an episiotomy (a cut made by a healthcare professional into the perineum and vaginal wall).

⚕️More likely to experience spontaneous vaginal birth.

⚕️Reported more positive experiences during pregnancy, labour, and postpartum.

⚕️Additionally, there were cost savings in the antenatal (care during pregnancy) and intrapartum (care during labour and birth) period.

Further evidence may change our results, and future research should focus on the impact on women with social risk factors and those with medical complications, and understanding the implementation and scaling up of midwife continuity of care models, with emphasis on low‐ and middle‐income countries.

Client Review 🤩

Such a privilege to support this wonderful family.
On this occasion I was mums sole support on the day- alongside the fantastic midwives of course.
A beautiful physiological water birth with just the aura orbs and gas and air for pain relief - amazing.

The strength and resilience of the women I support will never cease to amaze me.

If you would like to know more about the ways in which I could support you please get in touch I would love to chat with you 🤍

Busy busy bee!

It has been such a busy week!
Two overnight support sessions, two postnatal day support sessions, a post birth visit and a second antenatal session for expectant parents due in March not forgetting trying to keep my teenagers focused on revision over half term for their looming GCSE’s and A-level exams - chocolate helps- please send mini eggs 😂

Are you expecting a baby?
Have you considered doula support?
Perhaps you’ve never heard of a doula - so many people still haven’t!

If you would like to find out more about the ways in which I could provide personalised support or simply to find out what a doula does please get in touch for a free no obligation informal chat.

Happy weekend 🥰
