🌳 Caring for Historic Trees in Greenstead Green 🌳
We recently carried out sensitive and essential work on three mature Horse Chestnut trees on the boundary of a stunning period property in Greenstead Green, set just behind a listed brick wall.
These magnificent trees have stood for over a century, forming a vital part of the landscape and holding significant aesthetic and historical value. Old photographs show them as part of the setting for more than 100 years — so a careful, conservation-minded approach was essential.
🪵 One of the trees, sadly, had developed extensive root rot, with clear signs of decay at the base. Given its size, location, and proximity to both the road and the property’s garage, it was deemed safest to remove it. It was a difficult decision, but the right one to ensure safety.
🌿 The remaining two Horse Chestnuts have been pollarded, as they were in the past. Pollarding is a method that, when done properly and consistently, helps maintain the structural integrity and long-term health of older trees. By making smaller, controlled cuts, the tree can heal and continue to thrive.
We also removed new growth that had become entangled in overhead power lines and was hanging low over the road — improving safety while respecting the tree’s natural form.
✅ All work was completed with great care and precision
✅ Historic features and structures fully protected throughout
✅ Another very happy customer — and a healthier, safer treescape for the years ahead
We look forward to seeing these trees flourish again with a new flush of growth — and to playing our part in preserving their legacy for the future.
