🏵️🏵️Hypopressives: What are they and why are people talking about them?🏵️🏵️
🌸 Hypopressives are a breathing-based exercise technique designed to reduce pressure inside the abdomen while activating the deep core and pelvic floor muscles. The method was developed by Marcel Caufriez and is often used in postnatal and pelvic health rehabilitation.
🌸 Unlike many traditional abdominal exercises that increase intra-abdominal pressure, hypopressives focus on posture, controlled breathing, and a breath hold that expands the rib cage without inhaling. This creates a gentle abdominal “vacuum” effect that can help recruit the deep abdominal muscles and support pelvic floor function.
🌸 Pelvic and Core Physio hosted a Hypopressives workshop on International Women’s Day with the amazing Sinéad from . It was such an enjoyable session that I completely forgot to take a photo or share it on Instagram at the time!😱🫣
🌸 Some people use hypopressives to support pelvic floor recovery, posture, and core stability, particularly after pregnancy or prolapse diagnosis. It was great collaborating with Sinéad for this event as we both feel they are usually most effective when used alongside pelvic floor muscle training and good movement strategies.
🌸 More workshops coming soon, watch this space 💖💖
