What’s in your grounding kit? 🌿
We often wait until we are overwhelmed to think about how to feel better. But when you’re in the middle of a "brain fog" or a high-stress moment, making a decision—even a small one—can feel like climbing a mountain.
That is why I encourage building a Grounding Kit. This isn't just a box of things; it’s a physical anchor for when you feel like you’re drifting. It’s a gift from your "calm self" to your "stressed self."
It’s simple, personal, and intentional. Here are five categories to help you curate yours:
Something to Calm the Senses: A bottle of lavender oil, a soft velvet swatch, or a specific flavor of herbal tea that makes you feel "home."
Something to Anchor You: A smooth river stone, a weighted beanbag, or even a citrus-scented candle to help snap your focus back to the present.
Something to Remind You of Connection: A handwritten note from a friend, a printed photo of a favorite memory, or a drawing that makes you smile.
Something to Regulate Your Thoughts: A small notebook with pre-written prompts, a list of five things you’re proud of, or a simple breathing exercise card.
Something for Immediate Safety: Your counselor’s number, a trusted friend’s contact, or a local helpline written down where you don’t have to search for it.
Building this kit isn't admitting defeat; it’s an act of proactive self-kindness. You are worth the effort it takes to prepare for the hard days.
