Why should I supplement my dogs’ diet?

You may, quite rightly, feel that as you are currently feeding a high quality ‘complete and balanced’ diet to your dog that they are getting all the necessary nutrients they need to remain fit and healthy. However it may still be worth considering the following points:

All foods that are dried or heated lose a percentage of their nutrients in the processing. They will also be deficient in essential fatty acids which the body requires for healthy skin, heart and digestive systems.
Even if you feed a fresh raw diet to your dog it is worth considering the massive decline in the mineral content of fresh foods over the last 60 years. In 2006 The Food Commission recorded that iron levels in 15 different meats had declined 47% on average since the 1950s.
Soil depletion = health depletion.
As with humans, our dogs go through many stresses and changes throughout their lives. Additional support can be needed after illness, operations, moving house, changes in work routine, new arrivals (either human or canine), and other day to day stresses or just merely getting older!

It is worth considering all these factors when making the decision of whether or not to supplement your dogs’ diet whatever stage of life they may be at.
