Grandparents, aunties and uncles, friends – whether you’re babysitting for the first time or you have years of experience raising your own kids, our new web page is for you!
-
As new evidence emerges, the guidance on safety practices can change so we’ve put a web page together to bring you up to speed on the latest safer sleep advice. For example, did you know that in the 1990s, it was discovered that lying babies on their backs to sleep significantly reduces the risk of SIDS!

Your Maternity Unit is open 24/7. If you have any concerns about your baby or pregnancy this Bank Holiday weekend, there is always someone there to give you advice. Do NOT wait until Tuesday after the Bank Holiday, do NOT wait until your next appointment.

This is by no means an exhaustive list. Listen to your body, your baby and your instinct. If you have ANY symptoms that worry you, pick up the phone - day or night.

FREE EVENT FOR MISCARRIAGE WARRIORS

We are running a workshop / support session for those suffering following an early miscarriage.

The darkness experienced after early loss is often disorientating and frightening. Not only has your world, as you knew it, come crashing down around your ears, but you have no idea what to do, you have no idea how to cope because there is no rule book for this experience.

Maybe you haven't even told anyone because of the '12 week rule' perhaps you've gone back to work already, or do you feel that your grief is disproportionate to your loss because no one is treating you like your world ended, instead saying things like 'at least it was early' or wondering when you'll move on and why you're so upset?

If any of this resonates with you - YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Here at 'The Worst Girl Gang Ever' We know that your heart is broken, we know that YOU are broken and we know that while nothing can change the way you feel, WE CAN SUPPORT YOU until the way you feel changes.

Come along to our free support session on Thursday 11th May at 8.00pm UK time to learn how to look after yourself, to connect with other women who 'just get it' and to understand that your baby existed and the way you feel is real and valid.

To join - please fill in the form following this link.

We're ready to welcome you with heavy hearts and open arms.

Please post any questions below.

Gas & Air Update from PAH:

Latest update relating to gas and air within our maternity department - a message from Joanna Keable, interim director of midwifery and gynaecology, at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust
“Following the temporary suspension of the use of gas and air across our Maternity Unit, we are pleased to update that we can now offer gas and air to women and pregnant people in nine of the birthing rooms on our Labour Ward and all of our Birth Centre as well. Our expectation is that we now have a sufficient gas and air supply available to meet demand at any time, including with the use of our mobile gas and air kits.

“Final work continues on the fitting of the remaining permanent extraction/gas and air kits in 5 rooms, it is estimated that this work will be fully completed by 12th May 2023.

“Thank you to all of the women and families who use our services and to our maternity and medical team for your understanding and support.”

There’s often an unspoken assumption that you will stop breastfeeding when your baby is a year old, particularly here in the UK. However, the World Health Organisation recommends aiming for 2 years of breastfeeding (and longer!) This is because, if you can and want to, breastfeeding after the first year has several benefits for both the parent and Little One, including:

1. Nutrition: Breastmilk continues to provide a good chunk of nutrition for babies and toddlers, along with important antibodies that can help prevent illnesses and infections.

2. Immune system support: Breastfeeding toddlers have been shown to have fewer ear infections, respiratory illnesses, and gastrointestinal illnesses. When they do get sick, they often get well again faster.

3. Emotional support: Breastfeeding gives comfort and security for toddlers.

4. Convenience: Breastfeeding can be an easy and cost-effective way to offer nutrition and comfort to a toddler, especially when traveling or if little one is unwell.

What do you find helpful about breastfeeding your toddler?
