Children and Young People sometimes feel afraid to start therapy. It can feel overwhelming to trust someone new, especially when they are already struggling with unwanted thoughts and emotions. They may not know what to talk about or how to begin. The art therapist is trained to use art materials to connect with emotions safely in a way that reduces anxiety and overwhelm. It’s not easy to see what’s happening at first, then suddenly change bursts through like ink spilling through water. Mental health is not visible, art materials can help clients discover new perspectives on their experiences so they can make sense of them and feel safe again.

Clients can move from feeling stuck, uncomfortable or restrained to feeling emotionally held, contained, safe and yet you are not always in a new environment.
