Electric Accessible Canal Boat Build Update! ⚡️

We couldn’t wait to share the latest photos of our new accessible electric boat under construction!

The interior is taking shape, wiring and structure are progressing, and the space is starting to come alive — soon it will welcome our disabled clients, their friends, family, and carers to relax and enjoy the canals.

Built with accessibility and comfort at its core, this boat will make canal trips possible for everyone, regardless of ability.

Thanks to the incredible support of our volunteers, fundraisers, donors, and The National Lottery Community Fund National Lottery players, along with sponsorship from Xylem and support from www.hfw.com

Will you be watching the ParalympicsGB team from tomorrow?

We’re cheering on this incredible team as they take on Milano Cortina 2026! We’re especially excited to watch Matt Hamilton who is orginally from . He is making his Paralympic debut in Para Snowboard for Great Britain — how brilliant to see someone with Essex roots on the world stage!

Edinburgh based Para snowboarder Matt was inspired to participate in sport after watching the London 2012 Paralympic Games and seeing “all sorts of adaptive genius in play.”

Safety is at the heart of everything we do.

That’s why CanalAbility volunteers receive structured training that builds confidence and practical skills — from assisting passengers to working safely as part of a crew.

No previous boating experience required — just enthusiasm and a team spirit.

If you enjoy meeting people, being outdoors and learning new skills, volunteering with CanalAbility could be for you.

CanalAbility provide specially adapted canal boats for disabled people & people with special needs to enjoy boating on the river

CanalAbility are an award winning charity dedicated to providing the facilities for disabled people and people with special needs to enjoy boating on the river on our specially adapted canal boats.

Have a day out or a weekend break and enjoy a great experience exploring the Rivers Stort and Lee, through the Essex and Hertfordshire countryside. Have a go at steering and changing the locks, or just relax, watch the wildlife and the world go by.

For longer holidays you can travel to London and the Grand Union Canal. Cruise through Regents Park and its zoo or perhaps take in a show – the accommodation is free and there’s no congestion charge. If you prefer a rural idyll visit the historic towns of Bishop’s Stortford and Hertford and the beautiful rolling countryside in-between.

Our three purpose-built, fully centrally heated and accessible broad beam boats enable everyone to take a full and active part in the boating experience all year round.
