Why are all of these foods potential choking hazards for babies and small children?
Size, shape and consistency!
Hard, round foods that do not dissolve in the mouth and cannot be chewed properly by babies or toddlers without molars are a risk for choking ZARDS FOR Foods like grapes and sausages that are round are the perfect shape for getting stuck in your baby lor child’s airway.
Food like marshmallows that are sticky, particularly when wet with saliva, can stick to your child’s throat and be very difficult to dislodge
Lollipops on sticks might be fine to suck, but we know the lollipop itself can easily come off its stick and sucked into your toddlers throat.
MARSHMALLOWS
Please take care to cut foods properly to make sure that even if they get stuck, they won’t completely block the airway. Cut grapes, tomatoes and hot dogs lengthways into long strips rather than round or in halves.

The new maternity triage entrance is now in use, at the front of maternity in front of the disabled car parking spaces. The signage is now in place so easy to spot.

This is for service users attending triage, only. If requiring access to other parts of maternity or the main hospital please continue to use the main maternity entrance or main hospital entrance.

It was also a really lovely moment to be awarded by Giovanna Fletcher who Kate trained in baby & child first aid a few years ago 💚
