This Neurodiversity Celebration Week, we’re celebrating the strengths, individuality, and brilliance of neurodivergent minds.

Because neurodiversity isn’t a limitation, it’s a different way of thinking, feeling, and experiencing the world.

- Creative thinking that brings fresh ideas and new perspectives
- Incredible attention to detail that others might miss
- Honesty and authenticity that builds real, meaningful connections
- Deep focus and passion that drives innovation and expertise

At Oakdale, we see these strengths every day in the children, young people, and adults we support. With the right understanding and support, these qualities don’t just shine, they thrive.

Every individual is different. Every journey is unique. And every mind brings something valuable.

Let’s continue to celebrate, support, and champion neurodiversity this week and every week.

Fed up of trying to make yourself small?

Many people living with disordered eating aren’t chasing thinness; they’re chasing safety.

Diet culture teaches us that being “small” equals success, control, and safety.

But disordered eating never keeps its promises. No amount of “small” is ever enough.

It limits growth, offers surface protection, and leaves people feeling alone.

💛 True healing requires connection, compassion, and community.

At Oakdale, our holistic 3-pillar treatment model combines body-based and psychological approaches to help individuals reclaim their identity, find their voice, manage their inner critic, and rebuild a healthy relationship with food and body.

If you’re ready for support, we’re here.

“When I’m with my friends…we help each other when we’re struggling.”
— Young person, aged 17

Belonging doesn’t always look the same.

For some, it’s friendships, music, gaming, or shared interests. It’s spaces where young people feel accepted and understood.

At Oakdale, we help young people explore identity, confidence, and relationships in ways that feel natural and empowering to them.

“My home is my place…sitting on the sofa with my mum and we snuggle up.”
— Child, aged 8

For many children, belonging starts at home.

At Oakdale, we understand how vital secure relationships are to emotional well-being. Our work supports not only the child, but the wider system around them, parents, carers, and families, helping to strengthen safety, connection, and resilience.

Because mental health support doesn’t stop at the therapy room.

“My therapist listens to me, understands and helps.”
— Young Person, aged 11

Feeling understood can change everything.

At Oakdale, our therapists specialise in working with children and young people who may struggle with friendships, identity, emotions, or neurodiversity. We take time to truly listen because therapy should feel like a safe place, not another challenge.

Belonging starts when a child feels heard.

Children’s Mental Health Week – “This Is My Place”

This week is about helping children and young people explore where they truly feel they belong, because feeling safe, heard, and accepted is essential for good mental health.

At Oakdale, we create therapeutic spaces where children and young people feel:

✨ Listened to
✨ Understood
✨ Valued
✨ Accepted exactly as they are

From specialist therapy to family-centred support, our work is rooted in helping young people find their place, both within themselves and in the world around them.

This week, we’ll be sharing the important voices of the young people we support. We are committed to helping every child and young person experience that vital sense of belonging, and we won’t stop until they do.

International Play Therapy Week.

This week, we recognise the power of play therapy in helping children and young people express thoughts, feelings, and experiences that can be difficult to put into words.

Through play, children are offered a safe and supportive space to explore emotions, build resilience, and begin their journey towards healing.

At Oakdale, we’re incredibly lucky to have a team of fantastic, fully qualified and accredited play therapists who use creativity, compassion, and expertise to deliver meaningful, life-changing work for children and young people every single day. We’re proud of the difference they make and the care they bring to their practice.

Protecting young minds matters.

As a psychological well-being service, we see firsthand how powerful social media can be, for connection but also for comparison, pressure, and harm, especially for young people.

With mounting pressure on the government to discuss restricting social media access for under-16s, we want to share our support for initiatives that place mental health, emotional development, and safety as a priority.

Research and lived experience tell us that early and unregulated exposure to social media can impact:

• self-esteem
• anxiety and mood
• sleep and concentration
• body image and identity development

This conversation isn’t about blame or political views; it’s about the protection of childhoods, prevention of exposure to addictive, algorithm-driven platforms, making it easier for families to hold the line on this together, and ultimately, giving young people the space to grow offline.
