Your age is NOT the reason you can’t get in shape.

When you hit 40+ your metabolism doesn’t suddenly just “slow down” and your hormones don’t suddenly flick a switch onto fat storing mode⁣⁣
⁣⁣
You will get a slight decrease in testosterone levels compared to when you were in your 20’s but to many men cling onto this stat and use this as the reason they are struggling to lose fat.

The main reason for gaining bodyfat is poor lifestyle choices and getting older often means less activity and poor eating habits over the years.

⁣When you become less active, and sit behind a desk 9-5, your calorie expenditure is pretty low⁣.⁣

Therefore those few drinks you have on a weekend along with the 3 course meal…. start to get stored as body-fat⁣⁣
⁣⁣

This is just what happens not your “hormones” suddenly changing.⁣⁣

It doesn’t matter how old you are , if you over consume calories over time your body will store bodyfat


And the same is true the other way around: anybody (no matter their age) will start to lose body fat if they burn more calories than they consume over a prolonged period of time. ⁣⁣

Here’s my top 3 tips I suggest to my 40+ clients:⁣⁣

1. Purchase a smart watch to track your daily movement this will help keep you accountable and will make a conscious effort to increase your daily steps.
⁣⁣
2. Use progressive Resistance training regularly (ideally 3 times p/week) to help building and retaining lean muscle mass. (think “use it or lose it”)⁣⁣

⁣⁣3. Eat enough protein and green leafy vegetables to support the above.

Dropping bodyfat and building muscle all comes down to a few simple habits done over time.

1️⃣ Consistency with nutrition eating a whole food diet with sufficient protein to support muscle.

2️⃣ Consistency with strength training 2-3 x a week using some form of progression them 10 push you can do which you have been doing for the last 2 years won’t build muscle anymore.

3️⃣ Getting enough sleep, your body will not repair or work optimally if your sleep is off. You have to get 7-9 hours of good wuality sleep if you want to shift some bodyfat and build muscle.

These 3 habits = a lean healthy body

If you are 40+ and don’t do any of the above you are robbing yourself of good health.

You can also add in 8k steps per day, mobility and some form of HIT like sprints for optimal heart and lung health.

If you do all the above you will be healthier and leaner than 99% of the country.

Back at it again… how many times have you done this with your fitness?

👉 You start strong on Monday.
👉 A busy week at work hits, the kids need you, and suddenly training stops.
👉 A few weeks go by… you tell yourself “I’ll get back to it.”
👉 Then you start again — only to stop again.

And the cycle repeats.

Here’s the truth:
Most men over 40 don’t struggle with motivation… they struggle with systems that actually fit their life.

The problem isn’t you.
It’s trying to copy 20-year-old gym routines, crash diets, or 90-minute workouts you’ll never stick to.

💡 What works instead?
• 20–30 min, efficient workouts you can do anywhere (bands + bodyweight).
• Simple nutrition rules that work even when you travel or eat with family.
• Mobility + recovery built in, so your joints feel good instead of wrecked.

Consistency comes when your plan fits your life — not when your life has to fit the plan.

Margo’s approaches and the over 40s aren’t struggling because they’re lazy… they’re struggling because they’re eating in a way that drains their energy, slows fat loss, and costs them muscle.

If you want to look, feel, and perform your best — you don’t need a complicated diet. You just need the right structure so your body has what it needs to burn fat, build (or keep) muscle, and power through the day.

Here’s the formula I give my clients:
🥩 Protein first — 25–40g in every meal to protect muscle and keep you full.
🥦 Veggies most — half your plate for fiber, vitamins, and better digestion.
🥔 Smart carbs — oats, rice, potatoes, and fruit for energy without the crash.
🥑 Healthy fats — olive oil, nuts, avocado to keep hormones firing.

Eat 3–4 balanced meals, avoid long stretches without food, and always get protein + carbs after training for faster recovery.

When you eat this way consistently, you’ll notice:
✅ More energy at work & in the gym
✅ Stronger, leaner physique without crazy restrictions
✅ Easier fat loss without feeling deprived

You don’t have to starve yourself. You just have to eat like a man who wants to keep performing at his peak well into his 40s, 50s, and beyond.
