Male isolation in care homes is something we take seriously at We Care Group and Summit Care Group. 🩷💚
For many men, moving into care can feel particularly difficult, not just because of the change itself, but because they may suddenly feel disconnected from the people, places and routines that shaped their lives.
At Knowles Court Care Home, last year, we introduced a male-only unit within the home. A space designed for men of the same generation to connect with others who share similar life experiences, communities and interests.
Men often bond through shared history, the same areas they grew up in, the same workplaces, the same pubs they used to visit and the same communities they were part of for years.
Being surrounded by like-minded gentlemen makes a real difference when settling into care.
What we’ve seen at Knowles Court is how naturally friendships begin to form in this environment.
Conversations flow more easily, confidence grows, and residents feel a stronger sense of belonging.
For us, this isn’t about separating people, it’s about shaping care around identity, connection and companionship.
