There is a national shortage of Parent & Child Foster Carers! This means that too often, parents and their babies are placed in residential units instead of a nurturing home environment.

Parent and child fostering gives parents the chance to develop their skills in a safe, supportive environment, while ensuring their baby remains protected. A foster home can offer the warmth, guidance and stability that makes all the difference at such a crucial time. ๐Ÿ’š

Weโ€™re sharing insights into parent and child fostering, including the differences between skilled and supported arrangements, helping prospective carers understand the expectations, responsibilities and support involved in each.

Weโ€™re proud to share an important step forward in our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion at Nexus Fostering. ๐Ÿ™Œ

We are proud to confirm that Nexus Fostering has adopted the principles of The Halo Code, the UKโ€™s first Black hair code. This commitment reflects our values as a fostering agency that places identity, dignity, and belonging at the centre of everything we do.

For children in care, identity affirmation is protective. Seeing adults around them confidently wearing Afro-textured hair in professional settings helps to challenge harmful stereotypes and supports positive self-image, self-worth and belonging. Identity includes how you look, how you express yourself, and how your culture shows up โ€” including your hair.

By adopting The Halo Code, we are reinforcing our commitment to creating an inclusive workplace and fostering community where every child, carer and colleague feels respected, valued and celebrated.

Meet Anthony, our Gloucester Area Manager!๐Ÿ‘‹Ever wondered what the difference is between fostering with an agency like Nexus Fostering vs. your Local Authority?

At Nexus Fostering, we are all about that 'fostering family' feel. While Local Authorities are the first point of contact for children in care, we provide unrivalled, 24/7 support and specialist training that helps our foster carers thrive when there are more complex or therapeutic needs.

Whether you're just starting your journey or thinking of transferring, Anthony and the Gloucester team are here to chat when your ready.

๐Ÿง For Mental Health Week, weโ€™re proud to share a powerful poem written by one of our young people. ๐Ÿ’™

โ€œEveryone is still figuring things outโ€ is a reminder that growing up doesnโ€™t happen all at once โ€” and neither does having everything worked out. From childhood through to adulthood, we are all constantly learning, adapting and discovering who we are.

This piece is honest, reflective and compassionate and perfectly captures the message that no matter your age, youโ€™re allowed to still be figuring things out. ๐Ÿ˜Š

A huge thank you for sharing your words and helping us mark Mental Health Week in such a meaningful way. ๐Ÿ’ซ

โœจ Meet Rihanna โœจ

At just 18 years old, Rihanna has been given an incredible opportunity to complete work experience abroad in the Czech Republic as part of her animal care studies at college. ๐Ÿพโœˆ๏ธ Itโ€™s a huge achievement and an experience that will support both her learning and future career.

Rihanna has a close bond with retired foster carer Davina, who has been a constant source of support and encouragement throughout her journey. That relationship continues today, with Rihanna still living with Davina through a Staying Put arrangement โ€” offering stability, reassurance, and a sense of home. ๐Ÿก๐Ÿ’™

Stories like Rihannaโ€™s highlight the successes and dreams young people can achieve while showing that foster carers can help them build confidence, develop independence, and access opportunities that shape their futures.
