Understanding Diabetes

Diabetes occurs when the body struggles to control blood sugar (glucose) levels.

Type 1 Diabetes
An autoimmune condition where the body does not produce insulin. It usually develops in childhood or early adulthood and requires lifelong insulin treatment.

Type 2 Diabetes
The body either doesn’t produce enough insulin or doesn’t use it effectively. It’s more common in adults and can often be managed through healthy eating, regular activity, and medication if needed.

Why Controlling Sugar Levels Is Important

Maintaining a healthy blood sugar level helps prevent long-term complications affecting your:

✅ Kidneys
✅ Nerves
✅ Circulation

Possible Side Effects of Uncontrolled Diabetes
• Fatigue and blurred vision
• Numbness or tingling in hands and feet
• Slow-healing wounds or frequent infections
• Increased risk of heart disease and stroke
