Skin analysis

I have a machine in clinic that uses specialised lighting, daylight, UV, and polarized light, to capture high-resolution images of the skin.

These images, reveal both surface and subsurface skin conditions that are invisible to the naked eye.

Thetechnology allows for an objective and detailed assessment of concerns like pigmentation, fine lines, pores, oil production, and redness, enabling a skincare professional to create a targeted treatment plan.

How it works
Image capture: The patient sits in front of the device, placing their chin on a rest while their face is photographed using a series of different light sources.

Light technology: Different light modes, such as daylight, cross-polarized, parallel-polarized, and UV, are used to highlight specific skin features. For example, UV light can reveal hidden sun damage and pigmentation, while parallel-polarized light shows surface texture like fine lines and pores.

A set of images showing the patient's skin condition, which is then used by a skincare professional to discuss the findings and recommend a personalized treatment plan.
What it assesses
Pigmentation: Sun spots, melasma, and hidden UV damage.
Redness: Vascular patterns and inflammation.
Pores and texture: Pore size, congestion, fine lines, and wrinkles.
Oil and hydration: Levels of oil production and dryness.
Photoaging: Deeper wrinkles and sun damage.
Scarring: Irregularities on the skin's surface.

It’s a great starting point if you want to improve your skin

Exosomes

Are nano-sized extracellular vesicles that act as messengers between cells by transporting proteins, lipids, and genetic material like RNA.

They are naturally produced by most cells and play a crucial role in cell communication, tissue repair, and regeneration.

Tiny bubbles: Exosomes are microscopic, membrane-bound vesicles, or "bubbles," that are released by cells.

Cell-to-cell messengers: They carry a complex cargo of bioactive molecules, including proteins, lipids, RNA, and growth factors, to other cells.

Size: They are very small, typically ranging from 30 to 150 nanometers in diameter.
Natural occurrence: They are found in many bodily fluids, including blood, saliva, and urine.

How they work
Information exchange: They facilitate communication between cells, conveying messages about the status of their parent cell.

Regulating processes: They influence various cellular processes, such as cell repair and skin regeneration.

Do we think it will ever happen? 🤔

‼ A new article published in the BMJ highlights the growing appetite from skin cancer experts for an outright ban on commercial sunbed use in the UK.

Skcin have long warned the public about the dangers of sunbed use which increases the risk of melanoma and other forms of skin cancer — especially among young people. Yet we know all too well that current regulation is failing to curb usage and reduce harm.

🔑 Key points from the article:
• Sunbed use is surging, particularly among Gen Z, with social media promoting tanning as part of wellness culture.
• Even though under-18s are banned from using sunbeds in England & Wales, many still do with a third of 16-17 year olds reporting usage.
• Unsubstantiated industry claims & aggressive marketing is used to influence a vulnerable population.
• A higher density of sunbed outlets in north England and deprived areas correlates with higher melanoma rates in young people in those regions.
• Regulation alone has proven insufficient in other countries too.

✅ What the authors recommend:
1. A nationwide ban on commercial sunbeds.
2. A buy-back scheme as implemented in Australia could help reduce economic harm to operators and ease the transition.
3. Strong public education on UV / sun safety should accompany the ban, though it may take a generation to shift behaviours.

The UK government has pledged to prioritise prevention and to reduce health inequalities as part of their 10-Year Cancer Plan. During the consultation, Skcin submitted recommendations urging a comprehensive review of existing sunbed legislation—with a ban considered as a potential route forward. We hope the united and consistent actions of experts and charities continue to raise this important topic up the political ladder.

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ Breast cancer ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

can appear as a new lump or thickening in the breast or armpit, changes in skin texture (like dimpling or redness), a change in breast size or shape, ni**le changes (such as inversion or discharge), or an ulcer or rash on the breast.

While most breast lumps are not cancerous, any new or unusual changes to your breast should be checked by a doctor, as early detection is crucial for successful treatment.

Visible and Physical Changes
Lump or Thickening: The most common symptom is a new lump or area of thickening in the breast or under the arm. A suspicious lump may feel hard and have irregular edges.

Skin Changes: Look for dimpling, puckering, or redness of the skin on the breast, which may resemble the texture of an orange peel (peau d'orange). In people with darker skin, the skin may look darker, red, or purple.

Ni**le Changes: This includes a ni**le that turns inward (inverted ni**le), a rash on or around the ni**le, or skin that is peeling, scaling, or crusting.
Changes in Size or Shape: A noticeable change in the size, shape, or appearance of one or both breasts should be reported to a doctor.

Discharge
Ni**le Discharge: Leaking fluid from the ni**le (if you are not pregnant or breastfeeding) can be a symptom, especially if the discharge contains blood.

When to See a Doctor
Seek medical advice promptly: If you notice any new or unusual lump, skin change, or other symptom, make an appointment to see a doctor or healthcare professional.
Don't wait for a mammogram: It is important to report any changes you find to your doctor right away, even if you recently had a mammogram.

Important Considerations
Not all changes are cancerous: Most changes, including lumps, are not cancer, but it is essential to have them checked to determine the cause.
Inflammatory Breast Cancer: This less common type may not form a lump but can cause rapid changes such as swelling, redness, warmth, and a heavy feeling in the breast.

If in doubt - check it out

…so what does the menopause have to do with your skin?

🩷 Oestrogen plays a vital role in maintaining youthful, healthy skin. As the levels drop you
may notice:

• Loss of collagen and elastin, causing sagging and fine lines
• Dryness and dehydration, due to reduced oil production
• Thinner, more fragile skin, with slower healing
• Increased sensitivity or dullness

How can you support your skin’s health and resilience during this time?

🩷 Polynucleotides HPT®️ (Highly Purified Technology) is an advanced regenerative treatment designed to repair and rejuvenate ageing or hormonally affected skin at a cellular level.

What are they?
🩷 fragments of natural DNA derived from trout, known for their powerful ability to:
● Stimulate fibroblasts, boosting collagen and elastin production
● Improve hydration and elasticity
● Encourage cell regeneration and wound healing
● Reduce inflammation and oxidative stress

By working beneath the surface, Plinest Polynucleotides HPT®️ helps restore vitality, density and glow - making it a perfect solution for menopausal and peri-menopausal skin.

Real Results, Personalised Care
Your skin journey is unique. Whether you're noticing new concerns or simply want to support
long-term skin health, I’m here to guide you

Threads are a no from me!

They don’t last and there’s a high level of complications - see this poor lady with holes in her face 😢

There are much more effective treatments out there. Say no to the threads!

Unregulated thread lifts cause severe complications, leaving many women in A&E. Safety concerns rise as complaints triple, highlighting urgent issues.

Safe aesthetic procedures...

As a trained nurse prescriber who is NMC registered, I understand the importance of safe care. In this unregulated industry (yes really!) anyone can inject anyone. But did you know that dermal fillers used incorrectly can cause blindness or skin death?

My philosophy is SAFE aesthetic procedures that are affordable.

You say aesthetics and people think ‘big lips and B*t*x’ (not allowed to say the word due to advertising laws!). But its not about that for me - its about improving skin, helping people with something they are not happy with which in turn improves self esteem.

If you want an exaggerated look then I’m not your practitioner. No ducks or sausage lips from my clinic - sorry.
