A little insight how should your shoes fit? 👠👞
How do your shoes fit?
A question we receive often is: “how should my shoes fit” within this post we have illustrated 3 good & 3 bad!
1 = Good shape but too small.
This one is common, often it can be due to bad advice from the store representative or simply that your feet have “grown” since you bought them as feet often do if given the space. What ever the reason, it’s important they are given to a friend or family member & you invest in shoes as seen in image 4 & 6.
2 = Good shape for narrow feet.
This is a great shaped shoe for narrow, shoe shaped feet to “grow into”. Unless you allow your foot to splay, to spread & enjoy more space they will never develop. Even if the shoe feels big, it is only because your so used to the shoes feeling snug.
3 = Poor shape shoes & feet
Unfortunately with these shoes your feet will remain dysfunctional & shoe shaped. It’s important to change from these shoes asap to allow your feet to regain function. When we suggest changing shape we are talking mainly about the toe box, it’s this key feature that will allow your toes to regain shape & function.
4 = Good shape & good feet.
Here you can see how the foot fits within a correctly fitted shoe. It’s not compromised, there should be 1cm minimum from the edge of the shoe, the toes should not rub on the sides. This in fact is very hard to come across!
5 = Conventional shoes worn big
To allow for more space in conventional shoes we simply size up, in fact many people we have came across have sized up 3-4 full sizes to create more space! Not only does this affect gait but it’s not needed, especially with the shoes available to us. Even if you’ve decided to do this we are sure your feet will still be compromised as they are still too narrow.
6 = Good shape & good feet.
Just as image 4 this is another shape we see often used in footwear design, although similar it has some differences.. can you spot them? As image 4 it’s clear to see that there is sufficient room for the foot to expand under load & your feet will not be restricted by this footwear. 😊
