Guiding Lights Counselling and Empowerment

Guiding Lights Counselling and Empowerment Counsellor/Psychotherapist practising in Haslemere and Guildford. IAPT Counsellor with SABP NHS Trust Looking for a therapist takes courage. Why?

Because it means you have taken that first brave step to open something up that could be potentially painful and difficult, but you feel it is essential for your well-being to work through in a safe and professional setting. You may be feeling vulnerable and scared, unsafe even. I am not here to judge you or tell you what to do. I will listen to you and I will hear you. From there, we will build a relationship and work together in a comfortable and safe place for you to find your own answers. All therapists have their own flaws, vulnerabilities and insecurities. We will have come to the profession through our own life experience and we have undergone our own therapy pre-qualification to enable us to resolve personal issues and to be effective in our work. We have all been clients too and may still be, so we know that apprehension, that initial fear of the first therapy session and what might be expected of us. There is nothing to fear and everything to gain. What is important for therapy to work is a willingness to engage and work with the right therapist, someone you feel really “gets you” and with whom you feel safe. Therapy can bring you empowerment and life changing results. It is sometimes a difficult path to travel, but it is a journey you will never regret undertaking. I would love to meet you and see if we can work together. I have a broad range of experience to include working with depression, anxiety, all aspects of abuse to include r**e, PTSD, bereavement, self-esteem and relationship issues. I offer reasonable session rates of £50 for students and young people aged 21 and under or retired, £55 per adult over 21 and £65 for couples. I believe therapy should be available and affordable for all and offer concessions dependent on individual circumstances. I also offer a 30 minute taster session for £25. I am based in premises in Haslemere close to the A3 and also offer sessions in Guildford. Additionally, I offer therapy walks with the multi layered benefits of walking in beautiful countryside with your therapist by your side and home visits for clients who may have busy lives and/or may find it difficult to travel (usually within a 20 mile radius of Haslemere). I also provide telephone or video call counselling.

I have come to realize many things in this journey called life.
Most of all, that it’s up to me to look after myself and my happiness.
If I can’t do that, I can’t expect anyone else to do that, either.
I have to go where I’m wanted and stay where I want to be..
Not try to make people like me or force myself upon anyone else.
That never turns out well.
No, I have to turn and walk away from the people, places and things that tear me down, disrespect me and make me feel badly.
If someone doesn’t know my worth, it’s not up to me to prove it to them.
The right people will always get me…no proving anything necessary.
They will be the ones that love me unconditionally and support me all the time, regardless of rain or shine.
I’m walking away from the rest- the toxic people, the selfish ones and the ones with agendas.
I have to do what’s best for me if I’m going to be truly happy.
No more game players, users and abusers.
I’m filing my life with the unique, genuine and beautifully brave souls that enrich my life and make my heart happy.
The rest of them?
Well, they can keep doing whatever they want to do..
So long as they do it away from me.
I’ve got a train to happiness to catch.
Next stop: adventure.

❤️ SELF CARE - TAKING CARE OF YOU ❤️

Self care can often be confused with being selfish, but it is fundamentally different.

Self care is recognising what you need to support your unique and individual mental health needs, whilst respecting others and saying no kindly to things that are not right for you. Some of us, often through low self worth, are so keen to be liked by others that we become people pleasers. This often ends up with feelings of resentment and frustration towards others and a sense of being taken for granted.

Selfish is blindly doing whatever you like with no respect for others and whether it may be detrimental, painful or damaging to another.

Today, where summer seems to have waved goodbye, I have been reflecting on my own mental wellbeing and what supports that. For me it is:

• exploring and allowing my own process in personal therapy and self reflection to gain greater understanding of me;
• walking out in nature with my dog, with friends/family and with clients;
• being by the sea;
• yoga/body balance;
• listening to music;
• dancing;
• social connections with family and friends;
• journalling;
• reading
• time out to regroup, ground, rest and relax.

As you will see, a mixture of things that validate the importance of human connections but also the importance of time alone in our lives. Maybe spend some time this rainy day reflecting on what you need and what truly supports you. Create your own self care package because you deserve nothing less.

Love and blessings, SJ 💞

I just wanted to share this insight from a recent therapy session. My client said "If we could see what's going on in someone's life, wouldn't people be kinder to each other"? This led to us reflecting on the thought that if all our wounds were transparent, be they trauma, depression, bereavement, anxiety and so on, would we treat each other better and those who are keeping quiet about their wounds get the help they need? So many wounds are invisible to others and it's human nature to make a snap judgement on a person based on the very little we actually see. My thought for today is .. stop, take a pause, we may not know what's going on in someone else's world and above all, BE KIND .. you may just be giving a ray of hope that someone needs that will make all the difference to them 💜

I received this testimonial from a client today .. my heart is singing 💗

"Sarah-Jane has been my counsellor for almost 2 years now and she has just been amazing. Some may say that of course you'll say that if counselling is working for you any counsellor can help you but I've seen therapists before where it's just never 'worked' for me.
From day one with Sarah-Jane it was different, she was immediately approachable, warming and made me feel so comfortable. She has a real ability to make you feel safe and empowers you to find your inner strength. The confidence and strength I've gained over the past two years has been incredible and I honestly wouldn't have gotten through such a difficult time in my life without the support and encouragement of Sarah-Jane.
For anyone that has been through trauma, going through depression or just lost their way at the moment, I would highly recommend you speak to Sarah-Jane, she is an exceptional therapist who really will help you through your dark times.
Three words I would use to describe her, Professional, Trustworthy and Compassionate.
Thank you Sarah-Jane, you've been such an incredible support, HBS"

💞💞 DON'T BE ALONE ON MONDAY 💞💞
The sad and sudden death of our long serving monarch Queen Elizabeth II has sent shockwaves through many of us individually, nationally and globally. Her loss is keenly felt, for many of us viscerally akin to that of an elderly relative we don't see that often but have love and respect for and mourn their passing, often leading to reflection on and awareness of our own mortality. Many have been surprised and shocked by the strength of their emotional response to this. Whatever country you're in, if the Queen is mentioned, it is our Queen Elizabeth who comes to mind, an iconic figurehead who served her country with grace and dignity. For many of us, myself included, she is the only monarch we have known during our lifetime. If you are struggling with difficult feelings, please reach out and talk. I am offering a one off ther**eutically supported complementary service for a Haslemere and surrounding villages' resident on bank holiday Monday 19th September, the day of the Queen's funeral. If you will be alone, unable to get out, need someone to talk to, sit with or take you out to be with a friend, please send me a message or give me a call and we can make a plan.

Wanted to share this video from the wise and wonderful Caroline Myss .. it feels particularly pertinent right now 💞

She’s not always the person that speaks the loudest, walks the proudest or seems the strongest.
But beneath her layers of steely facade and happy smiles, there is a heart of gold and an iron will.
She’s been through the fire more than once, but every time, she found a way and kept going.
She never really was given another option..so she did what she had to do to survive..
And once she got better at surviving, she started thriving and growing.
Instead of always reacting to the storms that threatened to bring her down, she started taking charge of her life and her destiny.
Most would meet her without ever realizing they had crossed paths with one of the most beautiful souls and strongest people that they would ever meet..
And they didn’t have to know.
She was proud and strong, but in a quiet and unassuming way that just kept pushing forward.
No spotlight or fanfare, just an amazingly strong woman who decided she would never give up, stay down or be a victim.
This was her life and she chose to live it to its fullest- bad days, great times and everything in between.
Truthfully, she never had all the answers or knew where her days would take her..quite the opposite.
But what she did know was that she could overcome anything, against any odds and still be smiling on the other side.
There’s just something remarkably beautiful about a soul that doesn’t know how to quit..
Each time she fell, she got up stronger than before with more determination than she had started with.
She carries the weight of the world for herself and the people she loves, and she does it without a second thought.
That’s just who she is-
Friend, lover, sister, mother and everything else in between.
You can’t define her because her role is constantly adapting to whatever she needs to be in the moment.
So, when you see her smile, understand that her depths are complex, her strength is undeniable beneath all the layers of complexity lies a person that will always keep getting up,
Keep fighting back harder,
And always, she’ll be radiating brightly as she battles and shines through it all.
From the ashes to her ascension, she’s always going to keep rising higher like the Phoenix that she is.

Glad to hear that domestic abusers are now to be placed on a register and they have to inform the police of any new relationships. Partners will also be notified by the police if they think that they are in immediate danger, the partners will also be notified if they open a bank account in a joint name or buy a house with an abuser. This is a step in the right direction and an added benefit to Clare’s law that already exists. So all those abusers out there, will be on a register just like s*x offenders, named and shamed!

Copied and pasted.
❤️
Hope this helps someone before it destroys them 🧡
