🚑 British Paramedicine Turns 54 Today! 🎂 🚑

On 4th March 1971, six ambulance men from Brighton became the UK’s first paramedics, after undergoing pioneering cardiac and emergency training at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. This moment marked the birth of paramedicine in the UK and Europe—a profession that has since saved countless lives.

None of this would have been possible without Professor Douglas Chamberlain CBE, KSG, OStJ, the father of paramedicine, whose vision and dedication transformed pre-hospital care forever.

Today, we celebrate 54 years of paramedics—the frontline lifesavers who are always there in our greatest moments of need. Happy Birthday, British Paramedicine! 🎉👏🚑

Not only is this advice outdated, it's also dangerous. So, let's find out why 🟠

Never put anything in someone’s mouth during a seizure - it can cause injury or choking.

Instead, stay calm, clear the area around them, and protect their head by placing something soft underneath. After the seizure, gently roll them onto their side. Call for help if it lasts more than 5 minutes or they do not regain consciousness.

What is a panic attack? 🟠

A panic attack is a sudden episode of intense fear or discomfort that triggers severe physical reactions, even when there’s no real danger or apparent cause. It can feel overwhelming, and symptoms may appear quickly, often reaching their peak within minutes.

Common symptoms include (but are not limited to) rapid heart rate or palpitations, sweating, shortness of breath or a feeling of being unable to breathe.

Let's think about this statement again. If someone is experiencing shortness of breath, should we be encouraging them to breathe into a bag which has got limited air capacity? Answer in the comments...

Don't forget to share this - there's a lot of outdated information out there.
