Emergency blood stocks are critically low! 😔🩸

We urgently need the help of our wonderful community to make sure no dog goes without the blood they need this winter 💔

We want to ensure there is enough blood available for every dog that needs it, including our very own patients, but supplies are running out. More dogs are urgently needed to come forward and donate blood so that supplies can be rebuilt and every dog can get the blood they need 🙏

🐶 Fit, healthy, and confident

✨ Stevie’s Success Story ✨
👁️ Eyelid Reconstruction 👁️
(Pre-Op ➡️ Post-Op Photos)

We are thrilled to share Stevie's story after a delicate and carefully planned eyelid surgery. 💛🐾

Stevie came to us with a full-thickness laceration along the lower eyelid of the left eye. Injuries in this area can be painful and can put the eye itself at risk, so prompt and precise treatment is essential.

🩺 What We Did:
Under general anaesthesia, our surgical team:
• Removed the damaged portion of the wound
• Cleaned and refreshed the surrounding tissue
• Carefully placed fine sutures to reconstruct the eyelid margin
• Applied a protective bandage contact lens
• Added a small tacking suture to help protect the cornea during healing

💬 What’s Next:
Because part of the eyelid was already necrotic before surgery, there was a chance of delayed healing or further tissue loss. If that occurred, Stevie may have needed additional reconstructive surgery.

Our main goal was to preserve the structure and normal function of Stevie’s lower eyelid, and we’re happy to report that he's fully healed, comfortable and now signed off from our care!

Swipe to see his journey from pre-op to post-op ➡️💕

Incredible Success Story – ARYA 🩺🩵🩻🫀😍

Arya began her journey as a tiny stray kitten, found alone and brought into The Cat and Rabbit Rescue Centre for help. It quickly became clear that something was seriously wrong. Arya arrived to us with a severe case of pectus excavatum — her sternum curved so deeply that the tip of her xiphoid process sat less than 1 cm from her vertebrae. X-rays showed her heart was significantly displaced to the left.

Given the severity of her condition, we moved quickly. Under general anaesthesia, our specialist surgical team fitted a custom sternal splint. Sutures were carefully passed under her sternal bones, allowing us to lift and reshape her deformed rib cage.

Arya healed beautifully. Her breathing improved, her comfort increased, and she now enjoys a far better quality of life. She charmed everyone involved in her care — so much so that one of the team members fell in love with her and adopted her ✨

Thank you to The Cat and Rabbit Rescue Centre for giving her a chance and to everyone involved in her care!🏥🐱

Angiostrongylus vasorum 🫁🪱

Lungworms are parasites that can live in a dog's heart and the blood vessels of the lungs, causing symptoms like coughing, breathing difficulties, weight loss, and bleeding disorders. Dogs get infected by accidentally eating infected slugs or snails, or by ingesting their slime trails, which can happen when they eat grass, drink from puddles, or play outdoors.

🩸 This dog tested positive for Lungworm.

👁️ Did you know?

German Shepherds are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia. This affects joint alignment and can cause arthritis or pain later on in life.
This can be prevented by ensuring your selected breeder has had hip and elbow score evaluations prior to breeding. You can also check your pets parents score evaluations with the breeder if possible.
