With April being Autism Awareness Month, we want to share some stories of our staff and participants who are autistic. They include well known challenges autistic people face in work, but also some not so common challenges. We want to highlight how we provide these individuals with the support to enable them to work or be in the work environment despite having a disability.

We would just like to remind everyone that individual experiences are completely different and may also differ depending on which area of our organisation they are in.

Please take the time to read through everyone's stories. Thank you 😊

Caring for a child with autism is deeply rewarding—but it can also be challenging, especially when navigating meltdowns.

Every child experiences and expresses emotions differently. Meltdowns may be triggered by changes in routine, sensory overload, feeling overwhelmed, or difficulties communicating needs. Some children may show intense behaviours, while others may withdraw or shut down.

💡 Join our supportive session designed for carers:
✔️ Understand why meltdowns happen
✔️ Learn to recognise triggers
✔️ Discover practical strategies to manage difficult moments

You’re not alone—gain the tools and confidence to support your child through these challenges.

✨ Our wonderful members of the Pod from the We Can programme recently visited the castle at Llawhaden for one of their delightful wellbeing walks. 🏰

They enjoyed spending time in such a peaceful place steeped in Welsh history and beheld the amazing view of the surrounding countryside, especially good from the high point in the turret! 😁🙌

✨ Aelodau rhyfeddol ein Pod o'r rhaglen We Can wnaethant ymweld â'r castell yn Llawhaden yn ddiweddar ar gyfer un o'u cerddedau lles difyr. 🏰

Mwynhaodd ymgodymu â'r amser mewn man mor heddychlon wedi'i fritho â hanes Cymru ac roeddynt yn edmygu'r golygfa anhygoel o'r cefn gwlad o'u cwmpas, yn enwedig dros y tir uchel yn y twr! 😁🙌

If you're concerned about your or that of a relative or friend, there is support. Self-care isn't selfish & it's an important part of preventing burnout.

The Easter holidays may be over for another year, but we can look back on the fun activities and amazing creations that our participants took part in making over the joyful occasion. 😊

The photos below show us the fantastic Easter decorations created by our excellent arts and crafts group. 🥰✨

Efallai bod gwyliau'r Pasg wedi dod i ben am flwyddyn arall, ond gallwn edrych yn ôl ar yr holl weithgareddau difyr a'r creations anhygoel y bu ein cyfranogwyr yn cymryd rhan ynddynt dros y digwyddiad llawen. 😊

Mae'r lluniau isod yn dangos i ni'r addurniadau Pasg gwych a grëwyd gan ein grŵp celf a chrefft ardderchog. 🥰✨

Supporting Employment

Norman Industries has been supporting people with disability and long term ill health since 1977. Today we employ over 65 people with additional support needs and support another 40 people each week in a supported work enironment to gain employment skills. The team make wooden products, run a cafe at Mildofrd Haven Leisure Centre, do various grounds maintenance contracts and have now opened a shop at Scolton Manor. We like a challenge so if you have a project you think we could help you with, get in touch - message us or phone us on 01437 763650

In the picture are some of our staff who have gained essential skills qualifications with the support of tutors from Learning Pembrokeshire.
