Pilates is a type of exercise that focuses on building your body's core strength and improving your posture through a series of low repetition low impact stretching and conditioning exercises. By core strength, we are talking about your back, abdominal and pelvic muscles. Through Pilates, you will be able to develop these muscles without adding bulk, thus increasing your flexibility and agility and at the same time toning your stomach and thigh muscles. Pilates goes far beyond your core muscles however and not only provides a complete body workout (you will be working muscles you didn't even know you had!), but also helps you develop an awareness of how your body works, helping your mind and body to work in harmony. My classes are appropriate for beginners (those who are new to Pilates) and intermediate level (those who have undertaken some Pilates before). Pilates is suitable for most people. Before starting the class you will need to complete a Physical Activity Questionnaire so that I can assess any health and medical conditions that you may have. Usually this will not restrict you from attending the class but will allow me to prepare appropriate exercises that are safe for you. If you have any concerns please contact me. Wear something comfortable to move in e.g. leggings, jogging bottoms and t-shirt. You will perform the exercises in bare feet or with socks. What should I bring? I have worked in the health and fitness industry for over 20 years within the NHS, private health clubs and community. I am qualified to teach Exercise to Music, Pilates Level 3 and Zumba. I am also a Registered Dietitian. I recently moved back to Hampshire after 12 years of military moves where I ran classes in Woodbridge, Suffolk and Tidworth, Wiltshire.
