Robson's Funeral Directors Local family funeral directors, Golden Charter, SAIF registered, Memorial Stones

Robson's Funeral Directors is a local family business, established in 1877 as A & J Robson joiners and undertakers. Our family decided to resurrect the funeral side of the business in 2009 and totally refurbished the premises to include a mortuary, large garage and Chapel which seats 120. Our motto says it all "Our Family Helping Yours" We take care of your loved ones as if they were our own. Robson’s Funeral Directors is an appointed representative of Golden Charter Limited trading as Golden Charter Funeral Plans, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN:965279).

On 1st March 2026 important changes were introduced in Scotland to the duration and renewal of burial rights as follows:

New 25 Year Terms for Lairs
From 1st March 2026, all newly purchased lairs will be granted for an initial 25 year period. Lairs purchased prior to this date remain unaffected and will continue under their original terms.

Renewal Options
At the end of the 25 year period, lairholders may apply to extend their right of burial in 10 year increments, with no limit on the number of extensions.

Advance Notification Requirements
Burial Authorities must contact lairholders at least 3 months before the expiry date to explain renewal options and the implications of not renewing.

If a Lair is Not Renewed
If a lair right is not renewed, it will automatically expire. Unused lairs may be resold and used or partially used lairs may be considered for future re-use under national legislation.

Renewal Fees
Renewal charges (if any) have not yet been determined, as the first renewals will not be due until 2051.
