🌟Hawick-Team Update🌟
Sadly Sarah Simpson is retiring from Hawick Vets at the end of this month, I am sure you will all join us in wishing her well after so many dedicated years service to Hawick.

Lucy is currently on a sabbatical, she is working in New Zealand for a few months. She is due to return in June, hopefully with a raft of new ideas from her adventure.
Until she returns we have the familiar faces of Suzanne, Jenny and Diana, along with two experienced locums. Ben who has been working in mixed practice in Aberdeenshire for the last four years and Isaac, a vet from Australia who has worked in mixed practice for the last five years in both Australia and the UK.

We would also like to introduce Morven Coutts as our new Farm Clinical Director. She is currently Clinical Director at Greenside Vets in St Boswells and her role is changing to become Clinical Director in charge of farm for both Greenside and Hawick.
Morven qualified from Glasgow in 2006 and after stints in the Highlands and New Zealand, she came to Greenside in 2013 to run the farm side and then promoted to Clinical Director in 2019.
She is passionate about all things farm and is one of only a handful of vets in Scotland to have a DBR qualification (Masters in Cattle Reproduction).
She is looking forward to meeting all the Hawick clients and supporting the existing team here to continue to provide a high quality service for all our clients.

🐾Success story at Crufts!🐾
One of our clients had the wonderful opportunity of competing at Crufts with their dog Cruz!

Cruz is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and excels at agility!
His young handler Thea competed with him in 4 agility classes and came home with 3 awards, including a first place in the pairs category.

We want to congratulate them on their achievements and hope they enjoyed their experience!❤️

🎸Elvis is in the building! 😍

Handsome Elvis was an absolute super star when he popped in to see veterinary nurse Jenny for his third vaccination and monthly parasiticide treatment! We think he quite enjoyed all the attention!

🐶G U C C I M Y A 🐶

This little star came in to be spayed last week and spent most of the day snuggled up in her blanket😍

We recommend spaying 3-4 months after the last season. Neutering early in life can help to prevent reproductive infections and reduce the risk of some cancers in later life.

-All pets on our Pet Health for life plan receive a 10% discount on neutering.

🐾Bear came in to see a nurse yesterday for his 2nd puppy vaccine!🐾

Bear is on the pet health for life plan so all of his vaccines, kennel cough and flea/worm treatment is covered✅

Bear is a newfoundland cross and at just 12 weeks old he weighs in at a huge 12kg. We hear that he loves to play with his kitten sibling and we think he is going to be a gentle giant ❣️

This cat is safe at the practice enjoying some food and a cosy bed. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a microchip. Please let us know if you recognise him as we'd love to reunited him with his owner.

‼️Important update to our Equine clients‼️

We would like to share that Sarah Simpson will be retiring from Hawick Vets, although she will continue to work part time with Rowley Mile Equine Ltd. We are sure you will join us in wishing her every happiness in what we know will be a very busy and well‑deserved (semi) retirement. Sarah has been dedicated to our clients and their horses for many years, and we are extremely grateful for her commitment, care, and professionalism.

After careful consideration, we have made the decision to discontinue our equine services from the 31st of March. This change allows us to focus our time, resources, and expertise where they are most needed and where we can continue to provide the highest standard of care.

We understand that this transition will require clients to seek alternative equine care, and we are happy to provide guidance during this process to ensure a smooth and supported handover. Rowley Mile Equine Ltd and Equitait both provide an exclusively equine service in the area. Once you have registered with another vet, please let us know and we will forward your horse’s clinical history.

Although we will no longer be offering equine veterinary services, our commitment to small animals and livestock remains unwavering. These areas have always been at the heart of our practice, and we are dedicated to continuing to support our clients and their animals with the same level of professionalism, compassion, and reliability you have come to expect from us.

Thank you for your understanding. It has been a pleasure to work with you and to care for your horses. If you have any questions about this change, please feel free to contact us.

🤔Did you Know? 🤔

Itchy skin and sore ears are one of the top reasons pets visit the vets!

To make sure we are offering the very best care, some of our team here at Hawick Vets participated in a training session with the specialist dermatology team from Vet Specialists Scotland last month.
They discussed the latest advances in medications and topical treatments to manage itchy, uncomfortable skin more effectively.
