What a gorgeous return to work I have had! Cute, fluffy, kind and also doing an amazing job teaching children to ride and providing much appreciated therapy. What a privilege to be supporting them both. 🄰

Thrilled to bits to get a couple of mentions in the Masterson Minute December 2025 Equine Newsletter! Firstly a write up for our comedy night and then a little bit about the Brooke, Action For Working Horses and Donkeys Christmas card showing Santa demonstrating ā€˜Head Up’ to relieve tension in the poll and upper neck!

Wishing all my clients, supporters and friends a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year. Your support means more than words can say and I am truly grateful to each and every one of you.

A lovely write up of our comedy night with Trevor Lock and RW Equine Vet - Your Local Independent Equine Vet. 🤩

A comedian and actor, Trevor Lock, who has supported comedian Stewart Lee on tour and appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe, raised £300 for Brooke by performing stand-up comedy at a pub in Hawkhurst in November.

The event was organised by Brooke supporter Jenny Lee (pictured with Pyxie the donkey at our Christmas Carol Service earlier this month), who was drawn to fundraising for us through her work as a Masterson Method equine bodyworker and massage therapist.

Jenny said: ā€œIt’s always a privilege to promote Brooke and is like ā€˜pushing at an open door’ to get my clients to support such a meaningful charity. My clients invest in bodywork for their horses because they understand how vulnerable horses’ bodies can be to the workload we put on them. Their level of empathy extends to the wider equine and human populations that Brooke work with across the globe.ā€

Trevor said: ā€œWorking horses and donkeys have always quietly served us, suffered for us, and somehow kept their gentleness. They taught me patience, resilience, and how to stand completely still while someone tries to put a hat on you. Supporting Brooke now feels like carrying on the education they started.ā€

The money raised from Trevor’s comedy night will help support the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules around the world and the people who depend on them every day 🧔

Wow! Talk about positive energy! What a fantastic time we all had last night with Trevor Lock. Trevor curated a great time and brought out the best fun and daftness in all of us. We raised over £300 for Brooke, Action For Working Horses and Donkeys and it felt amazing. Wine, cheese, chocolate, wonderful company and laughter really is a winning combination. Thank you again to our kind sponsors The Eight Bells Country Pub and Kitchen and RW Equine Vet - Your Local Independent Equine Vet for helping to make the magic happen.

It is a real joy to follow each client horse on their individual journey. This ranges from some horses that are still learning to accept human touch and for others it is collecting numerous awards at riding club championships! Variety is the spice of life!

Sometimes life casually throws you a pocket of joy (or two). Not only did I get to work on two fabulous horses today, who have significantly improved since their last visit, but I also got to meet these little stars! 🤩 🄰

Following on from the summer vineyard evening I am absolutely thrilled to now launch our pre Christmas Masterson gathering - a charity comedy night in aid of Brooke, Action for Working Horses and Donkeys.

I have been a little audacious and managed to lure a highly ranked comedy genius away from the fringe festival circuit! Trevor Lock works with connection and reviewers call his show ā€˜an absoluThe Eight Bells Hawkhurstperformance’ and ā€˜the most fun you can have without taking your clothes off’!

Please put Thursday 27th November at 7pm in your diaries and be ready to head to The Eight Bells Hawkhurst. Piled high charcuterie boards and fabulous cheese boards, with vaRW Equine Vetniments, will be served during the interval along with grazing crisps, nuts and chocolates! A fully stocked cash bar will also be available. Thanks to our generous sponsors RW Equine Vet and The Eight Bells tickets are available at a subsidised price of £22. Please comment below or DM to secure your tickets as places are limited.

My pre-frontal cortex is busy firing away as I plan for the next Saddlesdane Equestrian Centre talk, on Saturday 20th September from 9am, in collaboration with Wayne Bushnell Horsemanship. In between Wayne Bushnell’s fabulous demonstrations I will be covering a veritable smorgasbord of equine theory and research including:

🐓 How an understanding of equine neuroscience can guide us towards more ethical and empathic training (based on research by the wonderful Dr Steven Peters)

🐓How we assess your horse’s conformation and how a basic knowledge of conformation can assist in choosing activities that are comfortably within the constraints of your horse’s physicality

🐓How we analyse your horse’s movement to identify discomfort and/or imbalance

🐓How to spot muscoskeletal pain in your ridden horse using 24 behavioural signs of discomfort through the research of Sue Dyson et al and the Ridden Horse Pain Ethogram (should be compulsory material for all judges and instructors!)

Do come along with a learning mindset for an interesting and invaluable morning of education, connection and fun. Plus the coffee and snacks are rather good! Tickets available from https://waynebushnellhorsemanship.com/.

Today was all about continuous professional development with training and auditing from Society of Master Saddle Fitters expert Jane, from Bay Saddlery Ltd. Jane generously shared her knowledge and experience along with valuable input from gorgeous boy Cruz! It was fascinating to see how a horse is assessed through the lens of a saddle fitter. It is so important that bodyworkers, saddlers, foot specialists, dentists, vets and instructors can all work together with the needs of the horse and owner at the centre of everything we do.

Would you be interested in treating your horse to a Masterson Method session? I will be travelling between Hawkhurst and Dover on 4th or 5th September and have a space available for one horse.

The Masterson MethodĀ® is a unique, gentle and interactive method of equine bodywork. Years of stress and stiffness can often be resolved in a few sessions, by relieving built-up tension in core muscles and key junctions of the body that affect the horse’s performance.

In contrast to traditional massage, it works with the horse’s nervous system and the horse actively participates in the process. It is something you do with the horse, rather than to the horse. It is especially suited to anxious horses stuck in states of high arousal.

Please message me or comment and you can also read client testimonials on my page.
