If your brain’s belief of birth is predominantly a fear-based one, then there’s no motivation or drive to pursue a birth that goes against the grain of the medically managed experience

If your subconscious views birth as scarily unknown it will fight you on the planned homebirth you consciously desire.

If your subconscious has taken on board the message, whether from films or friends, that birth can go wrong at any minute it will interfere with your conscious knowing that you are made to birth your baby.

It is your subconscious ideas around birth that we need to address

This is Hypnobirthing.

Babies in Waiting hypnobirthing is also a comprehensive antenatal education and support packed full of scripts, relaxation and love.

Stop ignoring anxieties about birth and stop just talking about them
These are two things I see people doing which don’t lead to the positive experience they hope for
1. Ignoring fears means we ‘hope’ for the best, go with the flow, cross our fingers and hand our experience to others. Hope we get a great midwife. Hope we have an easy time. Hope there’s no challenges.
We miss out on the opportunity to plan positively and shape our birth for the better.
2. And just talking about fears will only get you so far. If your mind is fearing the ‘what ifs’, talking doesn’t go deep enough.
Your positive planning is constantly being sabotaged by your subconscious belief that birth is ________ (fill in your own word here!)

Positive action for me was to stop burying my head, book a Babies in Waiting hypnobirthing course and begin rewriting my negative beliefs about my ability to birth. Stopped ignoring and stopped just chatting. Yes it was scary and yes it took commitment and yes it was so incredibly worth it.

DM me for a courtesy call to stop ignoring your fears and see how we can go beyond talking ❤️

It happens every time.

Because fully understanding about physiological birth and all the ways we interrupt it and all the ways we can support it and what being safe REALLY means makes sense!!

Birth partners want to feel safe in their support of you. This course offers your birth partners that.

Having a birth partner at your side who’s scared and doesn’t feel in any way safe is not a good place to be so although yes the response of ‘you can do what you want/birth where you want’ is true it is much more impactful to have a partner who feels safe with you.

I have seen this play out so many times after a first session. It’s like a veil being lifted, sometimes homebirth plans are being made as a couple walk out the door, sometimes it plants a seed and new plans grow over the next few weeks, sometimes the sense of it means even when hospital is chosen positive plans are made to fill the gap where there was once just fear.

Even the response from a partner of right I get it, it makes absolute sense, it’s the right thing to have the homebirth, hire the doula and I’m going to stay in the background so my fear doesn’t get in the way 🙌🏻

Talk to a homebirth midwife, talk to me, talk to a friend who’s had a homebirth, book onto one of our courses. We are here to support you and your partner x

‘It’s none of your business!’ - really was what I said internally repeatedly during the most active part of my labour.

When I reflected on this some time later it started to make sense. It was my internal chatter giving me a helping hand and reminding me to get out of the way! To not do what I had done previously - tense and fight the sensations - this funny sentence simply was saying it is not yours to control and in true style it meant LET THEM! Let the surges come!

And wow did it help!!

Do you remember your internal chatter?

There’s a part of me that just really wants to shout out to all the amazing women I know and love. There are many.

However this ‘day’ feels particularly conflicted for me this year.

Wider world events and the maternity system specifically where most of my work is, makes this day feel at odds.

So my focus and energy continues to be to encourage, support and empower women to ask questions and to keep asking questions, to expect to be listened to and to advocate loudly for themselves because in a maternity system that is predominantly supplied by women (80% of care providers in maternity and nursing are women) you might expect a system mostly with women in mind but the reality is that 75% of the senior roles with the power to “shape agendas and drive outcomes” remain approximately three-quarters NOT women and this essentially means a system that is not about or for women.

When we see woman and predominantly woman sitting at the tables that make the broadest policy decisions about funding and health strategies then we might see a shift in the system from pathology focussed care to viewing birth as a normal natural healthy function.

Happy 8th March everyone.

Early labour

It’s a mind game

Avoid waiting and expecting. Side step what you think you ‘should’ do and just tap into what feels good, feels better, feels needed.

Be rested. Be comforted. Be connected. Be grounded. Be grateful. Be inner.

Every time anything is offered to you in labour (whether from a midwife, doula or partner) it should be for you.

Not to tick a box or protocol, not for someone to feel useful, not to show knowledge, not to feel in control. The lines here are blurry and suggestions can be with the best intentions on the surface but dig deeper and they are not always about you.

All of these examples even those that seems less intrusive can affect the birth process, stimulate thinking and have consequences. Sometimes these consequences seem subtle but can be powerful. They can all affect mindset massively and how that birthing person perceives how well they are doing or how ‘normal’ everything is.

From the routine VE that can cause a compete overturn of confidence to an oil that is being used for someone to feel ‘useful’ in the space but isn’t what the labouring woman needs and in fact makes her ‘come to’ and affects her flow - all things have an impact

Consider your wants and wishes and your support carefully antenatally and always ask yourself - is this really about me?

March energy! One of my favourite months.

Nurturing those plans from the last two month as everything wakes up around us

Where’s your energy at?

24/02/2026

Channeling energy into what we don’t want will more likely lead us there.

It is not always easy to choose faith, to choose trust but the choice is there nevertheless.

Start small. Identify what you do want and start expanding this in your life, in conversations, in writing, in images, in thoughts, in what you read and what you think. A little each day. Be consistent.

If you would like help, contact us at Babies In Waiting.

We are ready to support you.

Where is the safest place for you to birth your baby? Well, that depends. It depends on YOU. On how you FEEL when you set foot in your home or hospital.
Because how you feel about that place matters!
We know that hospital offers us medical security but does it offer you emotional safety?
Emotional safety for most birthing people is the key ingredient that enables us to birth safely. It allows hormones to flow as nature intended and let the physiological process of birth unfold and so then we are way less likely to need medical support.
Research is now readily available to show homebirth is equally and often safer than birth in a hospital setting .
If you are making the decision about where to birth your baby, have an honest, open, two way conversation with someone you trust. Your doula, your midwife, your hypnobirthing teacher, yourself!

Make your decision based on facts, biology and evidence, not fear.
