🌸 Bluebells 🌸
At this time of year, bluebells quietly transform our woodland floor into a sea of blue. They bow their heads gently and grow together.
Traditionally, bluebells symbolise humility, gratitude, and constancy — values that sit at the very heart of recovery.
💙 Humility reminds us that we don’t have to have all the answers and that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.
💙 Gratitude helps us notice progress — even the small, quiet wins that might otherwise go unseen.
💙 Constancy reflects the daily commitment to recovery: showing up, staying connected, and doing the work one step at a time.
Like bluebells, recovery isn’t about sudden perfection or standing alone. It’s about steady growth, community, and returning to what matters, even after long winters.
This season, may we take a moment to notice how far we’ve come — and to honour the quiet courage it takes to keep going. 🌱

💙 April is Alcohol Awareness Month 💙
Alcohol is a part of many people’s lives, but for some it can become a worry or start to affect health, relationships, or everyday living. Alcohol Awareness Month is a chance to pause, reflect, and have open, non‑judgemental conversations about our drinking and wellbeing.
If you’re struggling with alcohol, or supporting someone who is, please know you are not alone and help is available. We work very closely with With You, the drug and alcohol support service in Cornwall, who offer confidential help tailored to your needs.
Reaching out can feel difficult, but it’s a powerful first step towards positive change. 💛
👉 If you need support, contact With You Cornwall to find out how they can help.

April is both Stress Awareness Month and Alcohol Awareness Month, and the two are more connected than we realise.

After a long day at work or caring for others, it can be easy to reach for a drink to unwind. But over time, alcohol can make stress harder to manage.

Simple alternatives like breathing exercises, gentle movement, or quiet time can help you reset.

If you’re finding it tough to relax or feel like you can't switch off without alcohol, you’re not alone. Support is available, and talking to someone can make a big difference. Check the comments to find out more about our support and resources. 💙

April is National Stress Awareness Month

This month is all about recognising stress and finding healthy ways to release it. One of the ways we’ve been combatting stress is through a deeply relaxing Sound Bath session in the Sanctuary
Surrounded by calming sounds and a peaceful space, it’s been a moment to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect — leaving stress at the door and restoring a sense of balance.
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, let this be your reminder to pause, prioritise your wellbeing, and allow yourself some time to fully unwind.

The Bosence bird feeders are very busy at this time of year!

We're lucky to have regular visits from Blue T**s, Coal T**s, Chaffinches, Robins and even a family of Woodpeckers. We could sit and watch them all day and it's such a lovely activity to share with our clients.

This month's Bosence Three features Laura, a member of our admissions team. Some of you may also recognise Monty, our resident gravy bone analyst, who loves nothing more than welcoming clients and visitors to Bosence.

What drew you to a role in recovery?

I’ve been sober for 8 years this year and even in the early days of my sobriety, I knew I wanted to be a part of a recovery service at some point. It’s a privilege to be a part of and give back to the services that supported me when I first started my recovery journey.

· If you could share one piece of advice to someone entering recovery, what would it be?

It takes a village. So many of us isolate ourselves when we’re in active addiction and it can be hard to imagine just how many people there are who share your experience, who understand it and who are waiting to support you with compassion, free of judgement. Reaching out is a scary first step but it can change your life.

· What activities help to keep you grounded and focussed on your wellbeing?

I love being outdoors, either walking the beautiful footpaths around Cornwall or swimming in the sea. For me, wellbeing is also about being able to navigate all the emotions we face in our day to day lives, responding to myself with compassion and developing a better understanding of my needs. I'm always learning!

A glimpse of the wonderful wildlife we share our 22-acre site with.
A gentle reminder of how special and rewarding it can be to spend time out in nature.

Thank you to our Land Manager, Noah, for capturing these wonderful moments.

February is LGBTQ+ History Month — a time to recognise the history, experiences, and contributions of LGBTQ+ people, and to reflect on the challenges many still face today.

Research shows that people in the LGBTQ+ community can be disproportionately affected by addiction, often linked to experience of discrimination and isolation.

At Bosence, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, supported, and understood on their recovery journey. Compassion, respect, and inclusion are at the heart of the care we provide.

This Valentine’s Day, we’re reminded that one of the most important relationships we’ll ever have is the one with ourselves.

Recovery is an act of self-respect. Of learning to be kinder to yourself, setting healthier boundaries, and choosing a different path — even when it’s hard.

Today is a good day to recognise the courage it takes to show yourself the care that you show for others 💚
