Hot off the back of being voted "Employee of the Month", we thought it was the perfect opportunity to sit down with Nurse Charlie and ask her The Bosence Three.
What drew you to a role in recovery?
After working in busy healthcare settings and experiencing care as a patient, I wanted a nursing role where I could give the time and attention people truly deserve. Having seen addiction’s impact within my own family, I know how vital compassion is over judgement.
What makes Bosence special is the time spent with residents, the supportive and skilled team, and the safe, nurturing environment we create together. The empathy and dedication here reflect the kind of care I’d wish for anyone I love—and being part of that is deeply meaningful.
If you could share one piece of advice to someone entering recovery, what would it be?
Though I’m still new to working in recovery, I’ve quickly learned the value of taking it an hour at a time. Looking too far ahead can feel overwhelming, so focus on the present and let some thoughts wait—everything doesn’t need to be faced at once.
Above all, speak to yourself with kindness. If you wouldn’t say it to a friend, don’t say it to yourself. Recovery is a journey, and self-compassion is one of the most powerful tools along the way.
What activities help to keep you grounded and focussed on your wellbeing?
When I need to feel grounded, I’m always drawn to nature. Walking through the fields with my dog Maggie, feeling the grass under my feet, or watching clouds drift by reminds me to appreciate life’s simple gifts.
In summer, I find peace paddleboarding, and in winter I turn to creativity—crocheting and baking bring me joy. There’s something special about creating something from so little, and even more in sharing it with others.
Thank you Charlie 💚
