Close to Haywards Heath town centre, 10 mins' walk from the train station, ample car parking available The new owner Optometrist, Mr Umesh Patel BSc(Hons)MCOptom, would like to take this opportunity to welcome all existing patients of the practice to continue to receive the exceptional service in eye care they have benefitted from by Mr and Mrs Riley over the last 25 years . The front line staff including the practices three receptionists, Shelly Rowlan, Sue Jackson and Payal (Pie) Patel, as well as a Dispensing Optician, will remain to continue to serve the patients. Mr and Mrs Riley had served the community of Haywards Heath for so long, and having become household names, they realised that they needed to find a suitable successor to continue their legacy. After an introduction to Mr Patel, it became quite clear quite quickly that he would fulfil the role very suitably. Umesh Patel graduated from Aston University, Birmingham, in 2006, including a placement at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. Having successfully completed his pre-registration training in 2007 in community based practice in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, combined with hospital based practice in North-West London, he gained a wealth of experience working in a range of practices across England. As well as general vision conditions, Mr Patel is experienced in the practice of contact lenses, low vision care and learning difficulties related to visual problems. Mr Patel moved to Haywards Heath in in early 2015 with his wife Mrs Payal Patel who is a Cardiac Paediatric Nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital. After extensive research they decided that Haywards Heath would be a great place to establish new roots to bring up a family and offer their skills and services. All patients, new and existing, are invited to visit Dolphins Optometrists to experience the traditional, comprehensive, eye examination they have become accustomed to with the benefit of newer and even more sophisticated equipment that modern science has to offer. With a minimum of an hour allocated to each eye test we are committed to give our time and patience to each patient, elevating any problems or issues they may have related to their sight. We have close relations with the local Ophthalmologists and GP's allowing us to refer quickly with any conditions/concerns that need more extensive monitoring. Clearing up the confusion: Nearsightedness VS Farsightedness

Normal vision occurs when light focuses directly on the retina, allowing you to see objects clearly both near and far.

But not everyone sees this way:

🔹 Nearsightedness (Myopia): Light focuses in front of the retina, making distant objects blurry. Common in growing children and teenagers, it often requires frequent updates to glasses or contact lenses. Near objects remain clear.

🔹 Farsightedness (Hyperopia): Light focuses behind the retina, making close objects blurry while distance vision stays clear. Often present from birth, some children can outgrow it as their eyes develop.

How Astigmatism Affects Your Vision 👁✨

Led by Optometrist and Director of the Practice Umesh Patel, Dolphins Optometrists combine the latest technological advances in optometry, with a friendly and attentive service to provide our clients with the very best in eye care.

We have close relations with the local Ophthalmologists and GPs allowing us to refer quickly with any conditions/concerns that need more extensive monitoring. We are proud of our reputation as a friendly and accessible Practice. We are a short walk from Haywards Heath train station and the main shopping area of the town. We also have ample free parking on site for customers traveling by car.

As a Practice we understand that it can be difficult to schedule eye care appointments around other work and family commitments; we always try to be flexible to accommodate our clients’ requirements and will open early/late if at all possible.
