Tackling Su***de
What can we do to help reduce the su***de rate which is increasing particularly amongst men. Su***de has a devastating effect on friends, family, colleagues and the whole community.
1. Don’t be afraid to talk about su***de. See videos.

2. Get some training for example the free course being offered by the Samaritans and Brighton and Hove Albion.

3. If you are feeling down, drop in on a ManKind peer support group. Weekly meetings in Heathfield, Hailsham and Eastbourne. There is also now WomanKind which meets monthly in Eastbourne.

Today, on International Men’s Day, we celebrate the positive contributions men make to our world, while also shining a light on an often overlooked issue: men’s mental health.

Men are less likely to seek help for mental health issues due to societal expectations and traditional gender roles. This can lead to feelings of isolation and untreated mental health conditions.

In the UK, men are three times more likely than women to die by su***de. It’s crucial to break the stigma and encourage open conversations about mental health.

Tips for Supporting Mental Health:

Talk About It: Sharing your feelings with friends, family, or a mental health professional can be incredibly relieving.

Stay Active: Regular physical activity can boost your mood and reduce stress.

Limit Alcohol and Caffeine: These can exacerbate anxiety and depression.

Get Outside: Spending time in nature can improve your mental well-being.

Connect with Others: Building strong relationships can provide support and reduce feelings of loneliness.

If you’re struggling, please know that you’re not alone. Reach out to us here at Mankind and consider coming along to one of our weekly meetings.

It’s not weak to speak 💙💚
