Waking up with a stiff neck or sore upper back? Your pillow, or your sleep posture, might be to blame!

John came to us with daily neck stiffness and upper back pain that started in the morning and lasted all day. The culprit? Poor pillow support and long-term postural strain at night.

With just 3 osteopathic treatments, 2 focused massage sessions, plus a few changes to his sleep set-up, John is now pain-free and sleeping better than ever.

In our latest blog, we break down:

- The connection between pillows and spinal alignment
- How osteopathy & massage can relieve chronic tension
- Simple steps you can take tonight to improve your sleep posture

How Breathing Affects Pain & Posture

Breathing isn’t just about oxygen, it’s about movement and stability. Your diaphragm connects directly to your spine, ribs, and posture. When we breathe shallowly (often from stress, asthma or poor posture), we lose core support and increase muscle tension.

Try this:
👉 Place one hand on your chest and one on your belly.
👉 Take slow breaths into your belly, feel your ribs expand sideways.
👉 Notice how your shoulders relax? That’s your nervous system calming down.

🎃 Happy Halloween 🎃

Did you know… pumpkins aren’t just for carving?

They’re also packed with vitamins and minerals that help support bone health 🦴💪

Pumpkins are more than just festive, they’re nutrient powerhouses that help keep bones strong and healthy:

Vitamin A → Supports bone tissue growth and repair.
Vitamin C → Helps the body produce collagen, a key part of bone
structure.
Vitamin E → Antioxidant that protects bone cells from damage.
Potassium → Balances bone mineral density and reduces calcium loss.
Magnesium → Essential for bone formation and helps activate vitamin D.
Zinc → Important for bone healing and maintaining bone strength.

Did you know September is Pain Awareness Month? Chronic pain affects millions of people in the UK, impacting daily life, sleep, and overall wellbeing.

Osteopathy provides a holistic approach by:
✔ Assessing the body as a whole, not just the painful area
✔ Using hands-on techniques to ease tension and improve movement
✔ Supporting lifestyle changes that may reduce ongoing pain

Persistent pain doesn’t always mean something serious—but it does mean your body is asking for attention. You don’t have to “just put up with it”.

✨ This September, take the first step towards better comfort, movement, and confidence in your body.

Appointments available, head to our website to book! https://east-sussex-osteopaths.uk1.cliniko.com/bookings

September is often seen as a fresh start month, a chance to get back into fitness after the summer. Whether you’re:

✔ Returning to the gym
✔ Starting a running routine
✔ Committing to regular walks or yoga

Movement is key to long-term health, but sudden changes in activity levels can sometimes trigger discomfort or injury.

If you notice:
⚠️ Tight muscles
⚠️ Joint stiffness
⚠️ Recurring “niggles” when exercising

Don’t ignore it! Early intervention through osteopathy can help prevent small issues
becoming long-term problems.

Top tip: Consistency beats intensity. Start gently, build up gradually, and listen to your body!
