A quiet evening. A meaningful conversation.

Last night, under a calm and still sky at Burwash Common Pavilion, over 60 people came together for a very special free Grief Seminar.

We were honoured to welcome Dr Bill Webster, one of the world's most renowned bereavement counsellors, who spoke with warmth, wisdom and compassion about loss, bereavement and grief. It was a truly informative evening, and the response from everyone who attended was wonderful.

We’re proud to be local drop-off points for The Hygiene Bank , helping ensure everyone has access to basic hygiene essentials.

For many, items like shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, or period products have become out-of-reach luxuries. Illness, job loss or unexpected life changes can leave anyone struggling - and hygiene poverty impacts confidence, dignity, school, work and everyday life.

By donating, you’re helping those who might otherwise miss school, avoid work or stay home simply because they can’t afford the essentials most of us take for granted.

We are incredibly proud to share this heartfelt email from Jigsaw South East.

Through the Recycling of Metals Following Cremation scheme - and with the kind permission of the families we serve - we were honoured to play a part in directing a ÂŁ10,000 donation to Jigsaw South East, a charity providing vital face-to-face bereavement support for children and young people across Sussex.

Receiving this email from Freddie St. George MBE is a truly humbling reminder of why we do what we do. The families who gave their consent should know that their loved ones have, in death, made a profound and lasting difference to the lives of children navigating loss.

We are grateful to Wealden Crematorium, to every family who participated, and to the wonderful team at Jigsaw South East for the compassionate work they do every single day.

We know how important it is that your experience with us is the very best it can be. Our staff will support you, and working with you will help to create a unique farewell for your loved one, being with you every step of the way.

Our series that started last year, where we share a little more about ‘Who We Are’.

"A day well spent giving back"

Our team had a fantastic time volunteering for Hospice in the Weald’s Christmas Tree Collection. From unloading vans to meeting friendly faces along the way, we loved being part of this ‘tree-mendous’ effort to raise funds for local hospice care in 2026.

Supporting our community is at the heart of what we do at Funeral Service and C Waterhouse & Sons, and we’re so glad we could lend a helping hand.

Congratulations to Hospice in the Weald for a well-organised and successful campaign that aimed to collect 2,600 trees and raise over ÂŁ57,000 for terminal illness care. The collected trees are recycled into wood chips for use within the community, ensuring a sustainable end to the festive season.

Heathfield Funeral Service is an independent, family-owned, funeral directors, based in the bustling market town of Heathfield. Since acquiring the business in 1991 our relationship with families throughout Sussex has been valued over many decades, with our care and attention to detail being renowned as being of the very highest quality.

On a daily basis Wendy Mitchell manages the Heathfield office. Dorothy, Tim, Jacky, Clare and Charles Waterhouse, supported by their loyal and experienced team, endeavour to provide traditional, bespoke and alternative funerals, reflecting not only the person who has died, but also with the key aim of exceeding the expectations of each family we care for.

As your Funeral Director we are here to help, guide and advise you in whatever way we can. We are dedicated to providing a personal service, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. With so much going on around you … so much to think about …. at such an incredibly difficult time, our role is to gently walk families through the different stages of arranging a funeral.
