Today, we pause to honour the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.

At Welcome Independent Living, we join the nation in remembering those who gave their today for our tomorrow. 🌺

We also take a moment to thank and listen to the stories of the remarkable residents at our care home Sunnyside Rest Home & Sunnybank Community Hub - Whitworth, our customers, and their family members who may have lived through wartime — their memories and courage continue to inspire us every day.

🏠 Get Your Home Winter Ready
Simple steps to stay warm, safe, and well this winter
🌡️ Keep Warm
• Keep your main living area at 18–21°C (65–70°F) during the day.
• Use extra blankets, wear layers, and choose thermal socks or slippers.
• Close curtains at dusk and block draughts under doors and windows.
• Check electric blankets are safe and never use them with hot water bottles.
💡 Save Energy & Money
• Check for energy support such as Winter Fuel Payment, Warm Home Discount, and Cold Weather Payments.
• Bleed radiators, fit radiator reflectors, and use timer controls.
• Turn off appliances fully, not on standby.
• Use a smart meter to track your energy use and costs.
🚿 Stay Safe
• Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly and replace batteries yearly.
• Keep hallways and stairs well lit to prevent falls.
• Use grit or salt on paths and steps to prevent slips on ice.
• Keep a torch, blanket, and list of emergency contacts handy.
🧺 Stay Well
• Book your flu and COVID vaccines at your GP or local pharmacy.

Apologies to everyone in the Upper Valley areas if we are running late today. It’s just take 1 hour 30 minutes to get from Mytholmroyd to one of the villages on the tops with road closures and roadworks. Everyone will of course get their care calls, please be kind to our carers who are trying their best under very difficult circumstances………again 🤷‍♂️.
