Flip It Like a Pro — Happy Pancake Day!

At Welcome Independent Living, we know a thing or two about perfect timing… whether that’s delivering outstanding care or flipping a pancake without it ending up on the ceiling (we’re still in training for that one 😄).

Today is Pancake Day — the only day of the year where it’s completely acceptable to have dessert for tea and call it tradition!

To all our amazing carers:
You already juggle schedules, kindness, compassion, and about a hundred other things every shift — so flipping pancakes should be easy, right? 😉

And to our wonderful customers:

Emergency Road Closure

UPDATE (16.00) from CMBC:

This morning, CMBC was notified of a depression within the carriageway on the A646 Halifax Road, Eastwood, Todmorden (OL14 6DW).

Upon attending site, a depression approximately 4 inches deep was identified along the centre line of the carriageway. Investigations have been ongoing throughout the day; however, due to health and safety requirements, further excavation is necessary. As the excavation depth has already exceeded safe working limits and works must extend further into the centre of the carriageway to identify the cause, it has been necessary to implement a full road closure.

From 20:00 on 10/02/2026, the A646 will be closed to all traffic. Teams will be working on a 24/7 basis to locate the issue causing the depression. Once the cause has been identified, a further update will be issued detailing the anticipated duration of the repair works and the expected reopening of the road.

The closure will be in place between:

The junction with Stoodley Glen (Todmorden side), and
The lay-by outside the property known as Rivendell (Hebden Bridge side).
Turning points will be available at the Todmorden roundabout and the Hebden Bridge turning circle, with advance warning signs in place to notify road users of the closure.

While we hope to resolve this matter as quickly as possible, the overall duration of the closure will depend on what is discovered beneath the carriageway.

The signed diversion route will be via the A6033 through Littleborough, Blackstone Edge, Cragg Road, and into Mytholmroyd.

Further updates will be provided as soon as more information becomes available.

Good afternoon carers, customers and colleagues. Hebden Bridge is chaos at the moment with 40 minute delays where the temporary traffic lights are stuck on red by the Co-op.
Unfortunately the main road at Charlestown will also be closed for emergency repairs tonight. This will involve a 16 mile detour for some…….
Please be kind to our carers who will be stuck and running late. We are trying our best and will be with you as soon as we can. We will have completed over 100 care visits in this chaos today so well done to everyone 👏👏👏

🌤️ Goodbye January, hello brighter days! 🌤️

As we move into a new month, we just want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you at Welcome Independent Living and Sunnyside Rest Home.

January can be a tough one – darker mornings, colder days, and plenty of challenges along the way – but you’ve shown up with kindness, resilience, and professionalism, just as you always do. The care, compassion, and dedication you give to the people we support does not go unnoticed and is truly appreciated.

February is a month about care, connection, and kindness – and that perfectly reflects the work you do every single day. Whether you’re offering reassurance, a smile, a listening ear, or going that extra mile, you make a real difference to people’s lives.
