Lots of questions from clients and friends about this recently so thought I’d do a quick post about those beloved abs!
Let’s clear up some ab myths once and for all 👇
❌ You cannot spot reduce fat.
Training your abs won’t magically burn fat from your stomach. Fat loss happens systemically, based on genetics, hormones, nutrition and overall energy balance.
❌ Exercise alone won’t reveal your abs.
You can have very strong abs and still not see them. Visibility depends largely on body fat levels — not how many crunches you do.
❌ Abs ≠ crunches.
Your core isn’t just about flexion. It’s designed to stabilize, rotate, resist movement and transfer force throughout the body.
✅ Deep core muscles matter.
Muscles like the transverse abdominis, pelvic floor and diaphragm play a huge role in posture, spinal support, breathing and injury prevention.
They may not be flashy, but they’re essential.
✅ The real ab formula:
Strong, functional abs come from:
• Progressive strength training
• Core work in multiple planes
• Proper nutrition
• Recovery & stress management
• Long-term consistency
Bottom line:
Abs are built through smart training, but they’re revealed through long-term energy balance and consistency — not endless crunches.
