I founded Mama Unleashed through a passion for fitness and the understanding of being a mum and trying to combine the two! Finding time for you is challenging and so exercise can sometimes go to bottom of the pile. The physical and mental benefits that exercise brings though cannot be overlooked and so I want to enable mums to be able to work out in a safe, friendly environment and to create a community of mums who support, encourage and empower each other. All of my classes are designed to accommodate all fitness levels, with adaptations given throughout so you can work out at a level to suit you. The classes are all friendly, welcoming and relaxed so that you feel comfortable to workout and best of all, you join a fab group of like-minded women all doing the same! Lots of questions from clients and friends about this recently so thought I’d do a quick post about those beloved abs!

Let’s clear up some ab myths once and for all 👇

❌ You cannot spot reduce fat.
Training your abs won’t magically burn fat from your stomach. Fat loss happens systemically, based on genetics, hormones, nutrition and overall energy balance.

❌ Exercise alone won’t reveal your abs.
You can have very strong abs and still not see them. Visibility depends largely on body fat levels — not how many crunches you do.

❌ Abs ≠ crunches.
Your core isn’t just about flexion. It’s designed to stabilize, rotate, resist movement and transfer force throughout the body.

✅ Deep core muscles matter.
Muscles like the transverse abdominis, pelvic floor and diaphragm play a huge role in posture, spinal support, breathing and injury prevention.
They may not be flashy, but they’re essential.

✅ The real ab formula:

Strong, functional abs come from:
• Progressive strength training
• Core work in multiple planes
• Proper nutrition
• Recovery & stress management
• Long-term consistency

Bottom line:
Abs are built through smart training, but they’re revealed through long-term energy balance and consistency — not endless crunches.

Train for function first — aesthetics follow.

Have you come across the idea of wintering?

It’s the reminder that winter isn’t meant to be about pushing, fixing or reinventing yourself.

It’s a time for pulling in, conserving energy and waiting for the light to return.

And for so many women — especially mums — the lead-up to Christmas is anything but quiet.
The planning, the organising, the invisible mental load, making it magical, holding everything together and everyone else up.

Then January arrives and suddenly there’s pressure.
Reset. Start again. Go harder. Be more motivated. Be better.

So if your energy feels low, or your body is asking for slower, quieter days — that actually makes a lot of sense.
Especially in midlife, when the body isn’t interested in performing on demand anymore.

Of course, it can still feel nourishing to eat a little better, move gently and find your rhythm again after Christmas.

That’s care — not punishment.

Some women genuinely love going all-in in January and that’s okay too.
There’s no right or wrong way to meet a new year.

But there’s also permission here to turn down the noise and listen inward.

To rest without guilt.

To let January be January.

And if it feels slower for you, nothing is broken.

You might just be wintering.

Fresh air today with my family - just what we all needed after a few days of being inside playing games and eating ourselves out of house and home!

Decided on a Little Rock climb at the end too just to get our hearts racing a little!

I’m excited to get back to exercise after a week off - definitely feeling sluggish and in need of routine again. Slow and steady though - crazy January exercise isn’t for me and not my approach. I don’t believe in punishing yourself after an indulgent festive break, it was totally needed and a nice reset button.

January begins with my gorgeous event on 4th January which will kick off the right mindset and some ‘me time’ after a busy few weeks ❤️

You haven’t seen much of me on here — and honestly, that’s been on purpose.

The fitness world can be a noisy place. A lot of what we see online focuses on how we look rather than how we feel.

But that’s never really been my approach.

At PT Unleashed, I help people make changes that last — not through restriction or perfection, but by working from the inside out.

My focus is on the person in front of me: their habits, mindset, energy, and goals. Some weeks that means lifting heavier. Other weeks it means slowing down, resting, or finding a way to move that fits into real life.

I’ve decided it’s time to share more of that here — because there are a lot of people who want to feel stronger, healthier, and more confident, but don’t connect with the usual “fitness” messages.

So, if you’re looking for a more down-to-earth, human approach to training — welcome.

💚 World Mental Health Day 💚

Today is a reminder that fitness isn’t just about stronger bodies — it’s about stronger minds.

In my gym, the work we do goes far beyond the weights and the workouts. It’s a space where women come to breathe, to reset, to talk, to laugh (and sometimes cry) — and to take an hour just for themselves.

That hour might look like training, but it’s also therapy in motion. It’s where stress melts, confidence builds, and you walk out a little lighter — inside and out.

So today, and every day, I want to remind you:
Moving your body is one of the most powerful ways to support your mental health. 💪🧠💚
