Through February we learned about people that help us - emergency services, cleaning our teeth and healthy foods, how we show and feel love (valentines day), this week we are learning about the Luna new year, and eating Chinese food, before we move onto Spring ๐ŸŒฑ in March, my favorite season to watch the children discover.
As always we allow the direction of the learning to be led by the children and cover all 7 areas of the EYFS framework within the themes!
I can't wait to get outside more, persistent daily rain has really hindered longer outside play sessions this winter, as much as we wrap up, cold AND wet just isn't fun for the children (and us!)

Can you guess the theme of next week's sensory tray? ๐Ÿ‘€ใŠ—๏ธ๐ŸŽ

I noticed we had started to rush our day a little to get onto "the next activity". This sometimes happens to me because the ever changing guidelines from above make me feel like I need to be covering so many things with so little time. But now I've noticed it I will start to slow down and remember that every single experience in early years is a learning opportunity.
Rather than, "quick, let's clean up after lunch so we can get on with our day" we went back including the children in the tidy up and last week we decided to make "water play" more meaningful by offering the children the opportunity to wash and dry the dishes.
They have all embraced this responsibility and also had lots of fun!

The children really enjoyed learning about oral health. Even the younger ones seemed to grasp what foods are good for your teeth and what aren't. We played dentists, read books, and sang teeth cleaning songs!

The Benefits of Loose Parts Play

Loose parts play provides children with long-term benefits which improve their development. This is a child-led approach to learning for children to think critically, solve problems, and be creative.
Why loose parts play is important
Loose parts play is a form of play that involves using open-ended materials such as twigs, stones, buttons, seashells, or boxes to create wonderful crafts, and even curtain accessories that are pictured here, enhance children's imagination. They also provide children with long-term benefits which are important for children's development because it allows little ones to exercise their imagination, theoretical reasoning, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

You might be wondering why loose parts play is important if children could just use toys to play. As children are given a variety of loose parts to play with, they are encouraged to think of unique ideas, scenarios and solutions to the challenges they encounter. This is a great way to exercise their brain muscles for healthy brain function with an increase in focus and cognitive development.

In all learning environments, children should be provided with learning opportunities that work to improve the 7 areas of learning. These core learning areas help practitioners, parents and carers support children by using activities that could help promote wonderful results in development. So, loose parts are important because they provide little ones with plenty of ideas which touch on all 7 areas of learning.

We have had a great January learning about winter.
We read books, sang songs, went for winter I spy walks, talked about the changes around us, in the trees and nature and what we should wear in the winter โ„๏ธ.

We also learned about polar bears in the north and penguins in the south, and how they love the cold weather. We visited penguins at the zoo, bought ice in from the garden to explore and made crafts, and played with all the resources set out. We even painted our own iceberg for our penguins to play on.

We did lots of exercise inside this month, and our favorite was the Danny Go polar bear challenge, as well as lots of climbing and jumping and running in soft play.

We spent time in the garden and on walks, in short bursts to make sure we got fresh air....

Can't wait for next months curriculum!

Christmas party time, with a visit from Santa!

Another great week. Every time we leave the house we check on "Mr Spider" and his web! He lives just outside our garden gate and hasn't moved all week. The children love stopping by to look at him as we leave! We joined the Zoo, and this week we went on a woodland walk and visited the aquarium and butterfly house, as well as the playground and indoor play centre.
We also attended Teddy Bear Bop musical movement session and went to a new stay and play session where we made fireworks crafts. Puzzles have been a keen favorite back at base this week, with all the children!

My favourite parts of the day are when the children get stuck into their independent learning, their curiosity and investigation creates more questions and they set about finding answers.
Today one of the explorers used my daughters fan to see what objects he could move and what happened if he increased the force. I didn't ask any questions to bring his learning along because his natural curiosity kept taking him to the next step. His excitement was priceless... ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿงฌ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿฅผ
