Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting Berkhamsted Foot Clinic to deliver a Basic Life Support, CPR, and Anaphylaxis training session.

A huge well done to the three ladies who took part, you all demonstrated fantastic practical skills and knowledge, and all passed with flying colours! 👏

Had a fantastic afternoon yesterday with the amazing team West Herts Wizards! 🧙‍♂️✨

They completed their Basic Life Support Level 2 qualification, gaining vital skills in how to respond to:

🫁 Unresponsive breathing casualties
❤️‍🩹 Non-breathing casualties, including CPR and use of an AED
😮 Choking incidents

All tailored to cover adults, children, and babies.

We also included some additional topics the team were keen to explore, such as:
🧠 Head injuries
😵 Fainting
🩸 Bleeding
💔 Heart attacks

Incredible effort and engagement from everyone involved — well done, team!

💬 Would you know what to do if an adult collapsed in front of you?
Here’s a quick reminder:

✅ Check for breathing
🚨 Call 999
👐 Start chest compressions — 100–120 per minute
🧠 Push hard & fast in the centre of the chest

⚡ If there’s a defibrillator (AED) nearby — use it as soon as possible.

🧯 Burns – What NOT to Do

🔥 Did you know? Applying butter or toothpaste to a burn can make it worse!

✅ DO:
• Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes
• Remove jewellery or clothing near the burn (unless stuck)
• Cover loosely with cling film or a sterile dressing

🚫 DON’T:
• Pop blisters
• Use ice or greasy creams

🚨 Would you know what to do if someone was choking?
Here’s a quick reminder:

✅ Ask: “Are you choking?”
✅ Ask if they can cough, if they can’t cough or speak, give up to 5 back blows
✅ Still choking? Follow with 5 abdominal thrusts
✅ Still choking? Call 999 and repeat the above
🚑 If they lose consciousness, begin CPR and call 999 immediately.

We combined e-learning with face-to-face training to provide a flexible, cost-effective, and engaging solution that worked perfectly for them.

Officially the biggest space I’ve ever delivered a course in… so much room for activities! 😄✈️
