B&M Care Understanding Starts Here🌹

Founded in 1975 by B&M Care Chairman Bill Hughes, B&M Care is a ā€˜family run business for families’ that has established a longstanding success story that continues to develop its person-centred approach to improving the lives of those living with a dementia. With the support of a forward-thinking Board of Directors and Senior Management team, B&M Care has created a benchmark for delivering excepti

onal care within enabling, high-quality environments, resulting in a strong foothold in the private care sector. Delivered in-line with B&M Care’s Rose Model of Dementia Care and overall person-centred ethos is a commitment to upholding a person’s dignity, autonomy and freedom to lead a fulfilling lifestyle through bespoke day-to-day care practice that looks at an individual’s uniqueness, rather than their physical or cognitive capacity. This approach is further complimented with a responsibility to delivering a comprehensive programme of meaningful engagement for the sole purpose of meeting the physical, psychological, social and cultural needs and interests of every individual living in a B&M Care Home. Within each of our homes is a seven-day-a-week engagement schedule comprising of both home-based and in-the-community initiatives to better support a person’s relationship with life both in and outside of their environment. As a specialist within the dementia care sector, B&M Care’s knowledge and practice extends beyond the immediacy of our homes with an ongoing commitment to developing, supporting, and ultimately sustaining a dementia-friendly community within each of our care home locations. This approach consists of a number of events, including B&M Care’s signature ā€˜Living Well with Dementia Seminar’ and month-to-month ā€˜Memory Cafes’, as well as Second Wind DreamsĀ® Virtual Dementia Tour: a ground-breaking experience that was launched in the UK at B&M Care’s Ashlyns Care Home in Berkhamsted in 2016 to offer participants (including B&M Care staff members) insight into what it feels like to live with a dementia. Further to this, B&M Care operates an open-door policy for visitors and family caregivers to seek dementia-specific information to better support them when caring for a loved one living with a dementia at home. Here at B&M Care, we are proud to be at the forefront of the dementia care sector, and with an ongoing commitment to enhancing our care practice – whether it’s through continued staff training or embedding innovation at the centre of our approach – we are proud to be recognised as a chosen provider that makes a positive difference to the lives of those living in our care.

At St Leonards, we were treated to a truly lovely performance from the talented Alice as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award. Such a talented young lady, and a joy to watch our residents loved every moment 😊

Generations together in the most special way šŸ’›

Sunshine, fresh air, and a few furry friends along the way… what more could you ask for? ā˜€ļøšŸ¶

Today at Ryeview Manor, we made the most of the beautiful weather with a lovely walk down to the Rye. There were plenty of smiles as we stopped to say hello to some very friendly dogs, followed by a well-earned cuppa to round off the afternoon ā˜•

It’s these simple, feel-good moments that make days like this so special.

Give him a mower… and suddenly he’s back on his own land again. šŸ˜„

He wasn’t meant to be doing the gardening at Osbourne Court… but John had other plans.

When John sets his mind to something, there’s no stopping him. Despite being told we’d take care of the grass, he was determined to get involved and we’re so glad he did.

Spending time outside took him right back to when he had his own workshop shed and an acre of land to look after, with his dog never too far behind.

You could see how much it meant to him, not just cutting the grass, but reconnecting with a part of his life that brought him real purpose and joy.

Moments like this remind us that it’s not always about doing things for our residents, but creating opportunities for them to keep doing the things they love šŸ’š

A fantastic afternoon with the Mayor of Decorum at The Hideaway with ā€˜The Gent’s Club’, alongside our Chairman, Bill Hughes.

Creating space for connection, conversation and companionship is so important and it was brilliant to see friendships forming, stories being shared, and plenty of laughter along the way and we got to share all this with the Mayor was fantastic.

From meaningful moments to building a (very well-loved!) scarecrow for the Bovingdon Festival, this is what person-centred care is all about and a lovely afternoon.

Any knights in shining armour ready to step in?

The team fully embraced St George’s Day, dressing in red and white and bringing plenty of smiles along the way ā¤ļø

It’s not just agitation… it’s communication. 🧠

What can look like distress is often fear, pain, confusion or a need that can’t be expressed.

Late stage dementia isn’t just about memory loss. It can affect how someone moves, eats, communicates, and experiences the world around them.

Understanding this changes everything for both the person and those supporting them.

If you’re starting to notice changes, or want to understand what comes next, we’ve broken it down clearly in our latest blog. šŸ’›

Most people think getting older means slowing down…
but what if that’s exactly what’s holding people back?

Dalton Lodge, we see something different every day. Strength, balance, determination and plenty of ā€œwait… I didn’t know I could still do that!ā€ moments.

Dalton Lodge takes chair yoga seriously, deep stretches, precise balance.

We love to see our residents flex their independence, boosting mood, and keeping both body and mind active.

Because the truth is… movement doesn’t stop with age it becomes even more important. 🧘

And today? Proof that you’re never too old to surprise yourself.

Residents from Montrose enjoyed a day out on Watford High Street, making the most of the sunshine and the chance to spend time in the local community.

Staying connected to familiar places and routines plays an important role in wellbeing, helping residents continue doing the things they have always enjoyed.

Ken, Costas and John took a relaxed stroll, browsed the shops, and stopped at CafƩ de Lisboa for a traditional Portuguese coffee. A simple outing, but one that brings confidence, conversation and a real sense of joy.

Reflecting on our celebration of Passover at The Radley. ✨

A truly special moment led by Caroline, daughter of our lovely resident Denise, who created such a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

With care and kindness, she guided us through the traditions, answered thoughtful questions, and brought the meaning of the celebration to life for residents, families and our team.

Stories were exchanged, smiles were shared, and for a little while, everyone felt part of something bigger. A lovely reminder how important it is to celebrate culture, community, and each other šŸ’›

Gardening is the perfect activity for spring, especially on warm, sunny days. It is something that can be adapted for everyone to enjoy, with simple, satisfying and meaningful results.

At Bury Lodge, our Garden Club made the most of the sunshine with a lovely morning outdoors. Our volunteer Aadhya spent time with Anthony enjoying fresh air, easy conversation, and a shared sense of purpose as they worked side by side. Together they planted marigolds and potatoes, and turned their attention to clearing ivy.

Today, Robert, Barbara and Janice from Chesham Bois Manor enjoyed a trip to Ashridge Estate, where they stopped for coffee and made the most of the sunshine. A gentle walk through the woodlands brought both physical and emotional benefits, with plenty of time to chat and reminisce along the way.

No outing would be complete without a treat, and an ice cream stop led to a moment of decision for Robert, whether to try something new with bubblegum sauce or stick with a classic. Chocolate won in the end, and Barbara happily followed his lead. For Janice, it was a particularly special moment as she shared it had been years since she last enjoyed a Mr Whippy.
