Sussex Resilience Campaign - Are you Winter Ready.
Three simple steps to be ready for whatever winter brings

Storms and cold snaps can disrupt power, water and other services.

While these situations are rare, taking three simple steps now will help you - and those you care for - be confident that you’re ready for whatever winter brings.

1. Join the Priority Services Register (PSR)
If you’re over 60 – or have health or care needs, young children, or rely on medical equipment - you should be eligible for free extra support during a power or water outage. The PSR lets utility companies know you may need extra help, such as priority updates, doorstep checks and bottled water supplies.

2. Pack a “just in case” bag
Having a few essentials to hand makes all the difference if services are disrupted. You could include a torch and batteries, warm layers (blanket, jumper, socks), bottled water, long-life food that doesn’t need cooking, medicines, important phone numbers and a mobile phone power bank.

3. Know who you can call
Write down key numbers - such for your utility companies, council, GP, and neighbours - and keep them with your bag of essentials.

To find out more, get started on joining the PSR, or to or request a free booklet on staying safe in emergencies, call 0800 998 7103 for free or visit www.sussex.police.uk/be-ready.

This information is provided by the Sussex Resilience Forum - the partnership of agencies, including the NHS, councils, police and emergency services - that keep Sussex safe.

Our residents enjoyed a lovely trip to the local garden centre today!
They had a wonderful time relaxing with a warm cup of hot chocolate, a slice of cake, and a stroll around the beautiful Christmas decorations on display.

Trips like these are so important for our residents — they bring joy, stimulation, and a chance to connect with the community. We’re already looking forward to the next outing!

Cookery Club 🍳✨

Cookery Club is incredibly important to our residents. It gives them the chance to take part in an activity they truly enjoy — something they may have loved doing in the past — and it helps them feel involved, confident, and engaged.

Taking part in familiar, enjoyable activities brings a sense of purpose and independence, and we love seeing the smiles, conversations, and memories that Cookery Club creates each week.

It was an honour to take our residents to the Henfield Remembrance Parade today.
A special honour went to Dudley, one of our residents, who had the privilege of laying the wreath in remembrance of all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. 🌹
We will always remember them.

🎃 Halloween Celebrations 🎃

Residents, patients and colleagues got into the Halloween spirit of things by creating beautiful autumnal displays with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.

Many of our care homes and hospitals hosted fun-filled Halloween events with delicious treats, mocktails, live music entertainment, costume competitions and community celebrations.

It's safe to say that everyone had a spooktacular time. 👻

Here are some of our favourite moments.

👻🎃 Bewitching Tricks and Spooky Treats 👻🎃

Springvale Court Care Home, in Wrekenton, , was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween Adams Family got into full swing.

Colleagues embraced the spirit of Halloween by dressing up as The Addams Family. Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, Cousin Itt and Lurch all visited Trinity Square in Gateshead town centre to hand out goodie bags for children and adults, and everyone had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Addams Family.

General Manager, Gemma Rooney, shared: “Our staff love any excuse for fancy dress day! – we’ve all had a brilliant time.”

The team at Springvale Court commented: “It has been such a fun day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get into the Halloween spirit. And seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces’’.

🔍 Thursday Night Murder Club at Caldy Manor 🕵️‍♀️

It was an evening to remember at Caldy Manor Care Home on the as residents, colleagues and friends from Heswall & District Ladies Circle turned detectives, suspects and stars in the home’s very own Thursday Murder Club-themed evening.

Inspired by Richard Osman’s much-loved mystery novels, there were hilarious plot twists and some truly Oscar-worthy performances, the night was packed with laughs and fantastic acting from everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all, the experience was a roaring success.

Safe to say… no one saw the ending coming! 😉
