Should I Give My Kids a Probiotic?” Let’s talk gut health for little ones!

A healthy gut does so much more than help with digestion — it can support your child’s immunity, focus, skin health, and even long-term wellbeing 🧠✨

But before buying a supplement, why not try boosting their gut health naturally:
🥦 Prebiotics — Feed the good bacteria! (Think onions, garlic, oats, apples, asparagus, mushrooms)
🍶 Fermented foods — Add friendly bacteria to the mix (Greek yogurt, kefir, miso, sauerkraut, kombucha)

For most kids, a diet rich in these foods is enough to keep their gut happy 💚
But if your child often deals with constipation, tummy aches, frequent bugs, or diarrhoea — a probiotic might help.
Here are a few of my probiotic picks for kids, these are for general gut health👇
⭐️ Optibac Babies & Children or Kids Gummies
Proven Probiotics Fit for School
BioGaia Protects Baby Drops

I absolutely love working with children — but what’s even more rewarding is being able to support an entire family on their unique, interconnected journey toward better health. 💚

Making positive changes as a family is so powerful, and recognising that each person has their own individual health needs can make all the difference.

Working with Michelle and her family has been such a pleasure, and seeing the incredible impact that dietary changes have had on them has been truly wonderful!

💩 Let’s talk about constipation!
It’s not a topic that often comes up between parents (I’ve certainly never heard it mentioned at school pick up!), but it’s far more common than you might think.

👉 Around 20–40% of children in the UK experience chronic gut issues like constipation.
And it doesn’t just affect the child — it can be really stressful for the whole family, sometimes lasting for years.

As a parent, it can be hard to know what to do or where to start. The good news is that there are simple, effective steps that can make a big difference — from including certain foods to using gentle, natural supplements.

Here are some foods that can help: dried fruit, stone fruits, flaxseed or chia seeds, and kiwi. These foods are high in fibre and other properties that support the gut and help keep it moving. Apart from food hydration is key! And this can be a big issue for kids.

Getting to the root cause of your child’s constipation is key to helping them feel comfortable and confident again. 💛

Ultra processed foods can be less obvious than you think. It can be easy to think that common foods you buy such as bread etc wouldn’t fall into tis category.
But unfortunately there are now lot’s of foods that have quite different ingredient lists than you might think.
This is just one example.
As I mentioned the point is not to demonise any food, and of course budget comes into this debate too as the more processed foods are usually cheaper which can be important for family budgets.
It’s just a gentle reminder to always check the back of packs to make sure you are happy and fully informed about the foods you are buying.

If your a parent with a fussy eater you know how frustrating it can be to cook a lovely meal for the family only to have it refused or picked at!

It can also be really worrying and over time you may get concerned that your child is not getting the nutrients they need from their diet.

There is lot's of ways to help encourage your child to try new foods, but if none of this is working then it might be time to think about what else might be going on.

This is where zinc comes in. Zinc deficiency can be quite common in kids for a number of reasons, but one of the effects of it can be picky eating.

If you want to find out if your child has low zinc levels then you can do this through a hair mineral analysis, this non invasive and affordable at home test is an easy way to find out if your child's zinc is low.

If you want to order a test or find out more pop me a DM or email info@sarahmorrisnutrition.com.
