So this Christmas, my Swimming Club, the Swim 2 Live group are taking on the mental & physical challenge of swimming 10 kilometers - 100 metre intervals, repeated 100 times with only a few seconds gap in between. Itโ€™s an absolute endurance-fest for every swimmer.

For some, it's about completing the 10km faster than they've done before.

For others, it's simply about finishing this daunting distance.

Others still, swim as many lengths as they can do pushing themselves to their limits.

But what we all have in common is that we're raising money to support the amazing work the Chiltern Centre does for young people with disabilities in Henley on Thames.

The Chiltern Centre provides 24/7 care for young adults with disabilities, often with complex medical needs. They provide a home from home environment with great emphasis on empowerment, learning, independence, friendship, choice and building confidence.

They offer a vast range of activities and opportunities from days at the farm, to volunteering opportunities, to dance classes, music therapy, arts and crafts, drawing, puzzles, relaxing and chatting, trips along the river, weekends to Butlins, and much more. The young adults particularly love their swimming outings.

To do all this great work requires ยฃ200,000 of fundraising every year.

So please do give whatever you can โ€“ every penny counts.

Too soon?

We know a fair few people who put their Christmas trees up yesterday. We'll be doing ours at the weekend.

It's the dreaded trip into the loft that makes think: 'we just need to get that bit out of the way, then we're halfway there'.

I'm sure we have loft goblins! We never find the Christmas decorations in the same place we're sure we left them the year before.

Go careful maneuvering yourselves up the ladder and through the hatch and go even more careful carrying them down. If you can please ask someone to help you!

We'll be putting the tree up listening to the new Fluidnation or Ben Mynott Shameless Classics album happily avoiding Cliff Richard's 'Mistletoe & Wine' and Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'.

Have you ever seen that coloured tape on your favourite footballer or wondered why most of the athletes during the last Olympics seemed to have tape all over them?

The reason is Kinesiology Tape, or K-Tape as it is otherwise known. Over the last few years this tape has engulfed the sporting world and there is a reason for thisโ€ฆ it has phenomenal results.

The tape has a repertoire of functions. It improves the efficiency of muscles and helps prolong fatigue. It can help to reduce swelling and can also help to alleviate pain and aid healing of injured tissues.

Kinesiology Tape, when applied correctly, can assist in overcoming injuries and aid recovery, it allows the muscle to free up their attachments underneath the skin to allow them to move more freely and work to their full potential. Even if you havenโ€™t got an injury this tape can give you more flexibility which makes the muscles tire less quickly on exertion, this in turn can improve the quality in a sporting activity and hence why you see it on so many high level sportspeople.

But you donโ€™t have to be an elite athlete to have treatment with the tape and it can help people with all kind of ailments and I have seen lots of soft tissue complaints improve within one physiotherapy treatment and application of Kinesiology Tape. Once the injury has settled there is no need to keep taping, but using it getting back to normal activities while rehabilitating your injury can be very helpful.

I buy all my Kinesiology Tape from as it's by far the best I've used to date. It's stays on for days and is so durable, it's so malleable due to the elasticity and is easy to use. It also means I get to order it from a local company as they are based in Henley-on-Thames. Their customer service from Roxy is always unbelievable too.

โ˜•๐Ÿค—โ˜•โ™ฅ๏ธ What fuels you? โ™ฅ๏ธโ˜•๐Ÿค—โ˜• Every morning, at 10.45am, I have a wonderful Latte brought in for me by my amazing husband. It's between patients, and I have a chance to catch up on my patient's notes and just take a breath before the midmorning clinic starts and takes me right up to lunch. It's gorgeous.

The coffee beans are from in Oxford - we've been buying them from there for years now. We adore them.

Anyone local can buy them at in Stoke Row. HUGE Congratulations to Tona at Imma for being named Baker of The Year! Quite an achievement and hugely deserved. Their Almond Croissants have to be tasted to be believed.

These little treats are joyous.

Anyway, back to another busy week of Clinic and Pilates.

๐ŸŽง๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽง Why Panacea? ๐ŸŽง๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽง

Music plays a huge role in the Panacea household. Like, REALLY BIG.

So much so that even my business was named after a song!

I met my husband in the early-mid 2000's and at the time he was in a successful chill out band called Fragile State.

Fast forward around a decade later and I was thinking of a name for my Physiotherapy and Pilates business and we remembered him naming a song on his first album with his band mate. The track? Yes you guessed it... Panacea.

a remedy for all disease or ills.

It just seemed to fit. Isn't it amazing how serendipitous life can be.

Did you know Halloween lanterns were traditionally carved from turnips in Europe? We now associate Pumpkins with the whole carving malarkey... But the best thing about Halloween (for us at Panacea HQ anyway!)... Pumpkin Soup!
Recipe - again, tried end tested - below!

Pumpkin Soup Recipe

1 pumpkin
about 1kg, peeled and deseeded
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp butter
2 onions
diced
1 garlic clove
thinly sliced
2 mild red chillies
deseeded and finely chopped
850ml hot vegetable stock
4 tbsp crรจme fraรฎche
plus more to serve

Method
Step 1
Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6.

Step 2
Cut the pumpkin into large cubes, about 4cm/1ยฝin across, then toss in a large roasting tin with 1 tbsp of the olive oil.

Step 3
Roast for 30 mins, turning once during cooking, until golden and soft.

Step 4
While the pumpkin cooks, melt the butter with the remaining 1 tbsp olive oil in a large saucepan, then add the onions, garlic clove and three-quarters of the chillies.

Step 5
Cover and cook on a very low heat for 15-20 mins until the onions are completely soft.

Step 6
Tip the pumpkin into the pan, add the stock and crรจme fraรฎche, then whizz with a stick blender until smooth. For a really silky soup, put the soup into a liquidiser and blitz it in batches.

Step 7
Return to the pan, gently reheat, then season to taste. Serve the soup in bowls with swirls of crรจme fraรฎche and a scattering of the remaining chopped chilli.

We're a big fan of starting the day with a healthy breakfast, be it Overnight Oats or Homemade Granola (tried and tested recipe from Rachel Allen below). It's really important to give your body some energy for the busy day ahead.

Crunchy Nutty Granola.
Makes 1.5kg

125g butter, 150ml runny honey, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 500g rolled oats, 50g roughly chopped pecan nuts, 150g roughly chopped hazelnuts, 75g pumpkin seeds, 75g sunflower seeds, 50g golden linseeds, 100g desiccated coconut, 300g mixed dried fruit such as dates, figs, apricots, raisins, sultanas, cranberries (the larger fruit chopped)

1. Preheat the oven to 170C/325F/Gas3.

2. Place the butter, honey and vanilla extract in a small saucepan on a low heat and gently melt together. Mix the oats, nuts, seeds and desiccated coconut together in a large bowl. Pour over the melted butter and honey mixture and stir really well to ensure all the dry ingredients are evenly coated.

3. Divide the mixture between two large baking trays and spread in an even layer. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes, tossing every 5 minutes, until golden brown. Remove from the oven and leave to cool on the trays, stirring every now and then. (If you transfer it into a deep bowl at this stage, while it is still warm, it will go soggy.)

4. Once completely cool, transfer to a large bowl and stir in your choice of dried fruits. Pour into an airtight container and store at room temperature for up to two months.

I always start my weekend with an early morning swim - whether that's in the pool, lake or river!

Swimming is as dear to my heart as running, possible moreso. It's something I've always done and it's always been a passion. Getting up super early in my teens to go to swimming club before school and again at the weekend for the swimming meets where I was ferried around endlessly by my parents. I really appreciate the sacrifices they made to do that for me. It was a commitment for both them and me but it's a discipline that has stayed with me as I approach my mid-forties.

So a big shout out to all the early morning swimmers and swimming clubs everywhere and a gentle nod to my group in Henley-on-Thames ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป

Swimming is an amazing way to keep fit, to build stamina, to get exercise, for rehabilitation... honestly, the list is endless. Just being in the pool can help you in so many ways.

โ˜€๏ธโ˜€๏ธ What a glorious start to the week here at Panacea HQ! โ˜€๏ธโ˜€๏ธ

The sun is out and looking fabulous. I start my week with a local session of yoga, a caramel latte and then it's straight into clinic mode!

I break my day up with a quick walk around the village at lunchtime with our hound before my Monday afternoon patients - always a chock-a-block session!

By the time I finish work at 6pm I look back and am always so grateful for that dose of fresh air at lunchtime.
