Increasing awareness on this World Menopause Day 2024 as to the plethora and breadth of symptoms experienced by women as they pass through the perimenopause. There are many more than this!

Symptom tracking is a reliable way of working out if a woman is entering perimenopause, rather than blood tests so seek help from your GP, BMS Accredited Menopause Specialist, Gynaecologist or Women's Health Physiotherapist if any of these symptoms are affecting your activities of daily life, ability to work, personal relationships or ability to exercise.

It's Re**us Abdominis Diastasis month, can you believe! So a good opportunity to explain what this much talked out condition is:

Tummy muscle separation is something I get asked about a lot in my clinic here at PhysioForMums. Also known as Re**us Abdominis Diastasis, Diastasis Recti or Divarification of the Re**us Abdominis, it occurs in pregnancy when the re**us abdominis muscle (that’s the ‘6 pack’ muscle) separates down it’s midline as a result of your bump stretching that muscle to the point at which it can stretch no longer.

100% of pregnant women have this in their third trimester so I always remind my clients that it is a normal part of being pregnant and, although good to be aware of, nothing to be worried about.

Your tummy muscle ‘gap’ will close naturally after your pregnancy given time and patience and there are plenty of exercises and tips that we can go through in clinic to help speed this process along.

If you’d like any further guidance on managing your tummy muscle gap, however long ago you had your baby, then please do get in touch and book an appointment, link in bio.

And what an uplifting way to arrive at work xx

Another fabulous weekend of learning about Pelvic Organ Prolapse thanks to and some very dedicated, knowlegable pelvic health clinicians.

Vaginal prolapse is a chronic long-term condition that affects:
- 6% of women < 30 years old
- 30% of women 51-59 years old
- 50% of women > 80 years old

Some are symptomatic, some asymptomatic. If your prolapse is bothering you and affecting your daily life seek help from a women's health physiotherapist who can help guide you through the variety of conservative treatment options.
